Prairie Songs - Pierre la Plante

Two Midwestern folk tunes, one tragic and one humorous, skillfully combined. The first section, "The Pinery Boy," conveys a feeling of grandeur and beauty of the land. The second section quotes "The Turkey Song." Common melodic patterns between the two songs make them sound as though they are related. A wonderful masterwork!

An absolutely gorgeous chorale weaves its way into a delightful little country wedding dance tune. After a restatement of the chorale, the presto sequences of the dance tune makes a spirited finale. Beautiful writing!

Prairie Winds Festival - James Barnes

Prairie Winds Festival is a fast, happy-go-lucky concert opener. It is very carefully scored and cross-cued, so that almost any size band can perform it. The Piccolo, 2nd Oboe, 2nd Bassoon, Contra-Alto Clarinet, 3rd Trombone and Double Bass parts are all optional, but if you have these instruments, it will sound more full.

Praise Jerusalem! - Alfred Reed

A major work of lasting importance for the modern symphonic band or wind ensemble by this acknowledged master of the medium. This set of variations on a 7th Century Armenian Communion Easter hymn calls forth every possible sound, color and tonal effect, showing off the winds, brasses and percussion of the modern band in all their glory. An overwhelming conclusion that blends an additional six-voice brass choir with the full band makes this one of the finest closing works for a concert in many years.

This composition, based on the hymn Praise to the Lord, is comprised of eight separate parts that can be played together as a concert piece or opening work. The A and B sections are different openings, C is four-part arrangement of the hymn, D is a solo for four saxophones, or two trumpets and two trombones, E is a calm intermezzo, F a solo for trumpet or cornet, and G and F finally are a majestic or peaceful closing section. How will you choose to present this piece on stage?
