The so called first horn concerto in D KV 412 is actually incomplete, and comprises a number of different parts, which according to musicologists don't really fit well together at all. The original finale movemnt (KV514) only existed in sketch form, with string accompaniment and was lost during World War II. In spite of this however, this remains one of the most popular horn concertos.

HENK VAN LIJNSCHOOTEN (Den Haag 1928) does not need any introduction. He is one of the pioneers of modern wind band music in The Netherlands and has a worldwide reputation as conductor, teacher and composer. From 1957 to 1964 he was director of the famous Marine Band of the Royal Dutch Marine. It was for the 1960 Delft Tattoo that he made this arrangement of the well-known British sailor's song Hornpipe, named after the typical celtic wooden wind instrument (originally made of cow horns in Wales). The Dutch dance 'horlepiep' refers to the same song and dance.
