William Tell Overture - Gioachino Rossini - Erik W. G. Leidzen

One of the great, classic transcriptions of the concert band repertoire, Leidzen's famous arrangement of the most popular and beloved of Rossini's opera overtures has been reissued in a fine modern edition edited by Tommy J. Fry. From the atmospheric opening, through the brilliant storm sequence and following pastorale (with its English horn solo), to the quick march, almost inseparable, for Americans of a certain age, from The Lone Ranger, this is a dazzling survey of what a talented modern band should be able to achieve.

Paradiso - By Robert W. Smith

In each of the past two years, Robert W. Smith has released a movement from his symphony The Divine Comedy. Musicians, conductors and audiences can now welcome Paradiso, the third movement from the symphony. Ethereal percussion is the palate with which solo voices paint musical landscapes of what paradise must be. Hints of themes from the other movements emerge to tie together all of the musical elements of this powerful new work. Completely captivating! (4:43) [The two movements already available are The Inferno (BD9563) and The Ascension (BD01085)].

Starlight Memories - By Darren W. Jenkins

Starlight Memories was commissioned by and written for the Olathe Civic Band in Olathe, Kansas. It was dedicated to the memory of Ed Badsky, who resurrected the group from a 50 year absence in the mid 1980's. Mr. Badsky was a pillar of the Olathe Band community. He was instrumental in starting Olathe's Band program from its beginnings in the 1960's to what is now a thriving and vibrant program that a proud and supportive community enjoys. Mr. Badsky was also a prominent jazz saxophonist who performed in the Kansas City area on a regular basis during his career. The work itself is meant to reflect and celebrate this man's life and accomplishments. It contains two short alto saxophone solos and its harmonies are "jazz" influenced. The work's title is based upon a local theater at which Mr. Badsky frequently performed.
