£54.99Arioso - Darren W. Jenkins
Arioso was written for and dedicated to the Hayden High School Concert Band, Topeka, Kansas. A slow, expressive, sustained work, it was written to help develop intonation, expressiveness, and phrasing, and for the limited instrumentation of that ensemble. (It has been rescored for a full instrumentation.) This piece can succeed with a limited instrumentation, and most certainly by bands without the instruments that were addeD. ( 4 minutes 30 seconds).

This work was inspired by interviews the composer had with six World War II veterans. All had fascinating stories, which they had told for the thousandth time or for some, for the first time. Those moving stories were the basis for writing Flights of Passage. The piece is programmatic in nature, with six segments depicting the various "passages" that all Americans experienced in some way, both overseas and here at home. The six segments are Innocence, One Nation, Conflict, The Telegram, Remembrance, and One Nation, Indivisible.

£104.50Two Preludes by Giuseppe Verdi - Giuseppe Verdi
In his compositional craft, Verdi was not reluctant to display some of his most powerful and dramatic music in his overtures, preludes and ballet scenes. His preludes before individual acts of the operas were shorter than his overtures, but they do foreshadow the mood and intense drama of the ensuing scenes. Paired together in this transcription are preludes from Ernani and Atilla, his fifth and ninth of 26 operatic works.

£104.50Piccadilly - Erik Satie
Along with the movement to Impressionism during the latter part of the 19th century, the French were caught up in the popularity of American ragtime and early jazz. Erik Saties piano piece Le Piccadilly, composed in 1903, was his own tribute to the syncopated dancing rhythms and lively melodies that made the genre so appealing. This fine realization brings the best of the genre and the eccentricities of the composer to the capable wind ensemble. A concert treat.
