Frederick's Black Devils (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Murtha, Paul

March of the First Special Service Force.During World War II, Winston Churchill initiated the formation of Special Force Commando Units that would prove so effective as to change the course of the war. The First Special Service Force, led by their intrepid colonel, Robert T. Frederick, was perhaps the most famous of these units. Due to their ferocious nature and blackened faces for night raids, the fearful Germans gave them the nickname The Black Devils. In 2015 they were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honour the U.S. government can bestow. Frederick's Black Devils is a stirring concert march that pays tribute to this legendary unit.

The Pageant of London (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bridge, Frank

Frank Bridge was one of the finest English composers of the first half of the 20th century. The Pageant of London is his only work for wind band, comprising of two marches, one scored from Bridge's best known organ piece and including the chimes of Big Ben, plus three short renaissance pastiche items, one arranged from Playford (later used by Peter Warlock in Capriol Suite). The music is tuneful, approachable and makes a fine alternative to Holst's two suites, which were composed around the same time. Duration: 15.00

A Gaelic Blessing (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Rutter, John - Noble, Paul

There are Gaelic and old Irish blessings for every occasion whether a funeral, wedding or birthday. While many of these old blessings petition or request the help or intervention of God in some way, it does not always mean that the person saying them regards him or herself as being very religious. These blessings, whether in Gaelic or English, were the way Irish people had of expressing hope, desire for a better future and solidarity with their family, friends and neighbours. This simple arrangement offers the choices of performance with combined band and chorus, band alone, woodwinds alone, or brass alone. It also includes optionally three tolls of chimes at the beginning and ending, which make it a perfect tribute for commemoration.

Believe in life (from The Gift of Life) (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Rutter, John - Noble, Paul

The Gift of Life was written early in 2015 as a commission to honour a retiring Minister of Music at a church in Dallas, Texas. In planning this piece, John Rutter has stated: In 1985 I had written a Requiem - which, like any Requiem, inevitably reflects on death - why not write the opposite, a work celebrating life? Unlike a Requiem, where a set form of words is laid down in Catholic liturgy, no framework exists for a celebration of life, and I had to choose (and in three cases, write) texts which were appropriate to a theme rarely expressed in music since Haydn's wondrous oratorio The Creation in 1798. The six movements reflect different facets of the miracles of creation and of life. This arrangement is written for combined Concert Band and Chorus, but may be performed by Concert Band alone.
