Highdays and Holidays (The Mortimer Revel) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
Highdays and Holidays was commissioned by the South Berks Concert Band to celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2016. The band rehearses in the village of Mortimer, which has a long and fascinating history dating back to, and beyond, the Bronze Age. Mortimer is famous for The Mortimer Revel, an annual event which was apparently a fairly rumbustious and sometimes violent affair. Highdays and Holidays seeks to capture some of this festive event in the form of an energetic overture, which explores a variety of moods including the somewhat chaotic atmosphere of the Revel. Sans Day Carol (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Noble & Rutter
The title of this folk carol is a corruption of St Day, the Cornish village (named after a Breton saint) where it was heard and written down in the early twentieth century. The choral part is shown in the score, but is not included in the set. This arrangement is compatible with the choral work which appears in the collections 'Twelve Christmas Carols, Set 2', 'Carols for Choirs 2' and '100 Carols for Choirs'.

Odilia (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jacob
Odilia is an up-tempo and joyful ode to Baume-les-Dames, a village in the department of Doubs in Franche-Comt, Eastern France. The title is derived from the legend of Odilia of Alsace (venerated as Saint Odilia, or Odile), the daughter of the Duke of Alsace. She was born blind, and literally saw the light at the age of twelve at the convent of Baume-les-Dames. From this miraculous occurrence, she was dubbed Odilia -- child of light.Jacob de Haan was inspired by medieval dance music for the opening of this composition. In the slow movement that follows, a lyrical minor theme builds to a dramatic climax, which is followed by a calm passage featuring the repeated lyrical theme. Finally, the medieval motif returns, this time presented in a festive gospel version.Duration: 7:00

Fiesta (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Curtis, Matthew - Noble, Paul
Despite its Spanish title, the concert overture Fiesta is really Italian, recalling a festival that I saw several times as a child in the late 1960s while holidaying in a village at the southern tip of the bay of Naples. The date is August 15, the occasion the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, celebrated with colourful processions and ritual (some, one imagines, pre-Christian in origin), all rounded off with brass bands and home-made fireworks. - Matthew Curtis. Fiesta was originally written for the orchestra of St. Paul's School in London, It has had performances in London's Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Royal Festival Hall where it opened a live broadcast concert in the BBC's International Festival of Light Music, and has made intermittent appearances on the radio ever since. This arrangement for Wind Band will make an excellent festival opener for accomplished bands and is a sure crowd pleaser with its dynamic flare and energy.

Diamond Concerto (Euphonium Concerto No.3) (Euphonium Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
Diamond Concerto was commissioned by Musikverein Morschied from Germany - Dr. Eric Grandjean, conductor - for a special concert featuring Steven Mead as guest soloist. Together they gave the world premiere on 28th April 2012 in the town theatre of Idar-Oberstein. The commission is a highlight in the 30-year friendship between composer and soloist, which has included many mutual CD projects and concerts and, now, a concerto. Sparke had Steven Mead's special euphonium sound in his head throughout the composition process and made free use of the variety of styles which the world-renowned virtuoso has made his own during his highly successful solo career. The village of Morschied lies to the west of Frankfurt am Main in the area known as the German Road of Precious Stones, which is famous for its thriving gem industry. Because of this it was decided to give the commission a local connection by choosing the title, Diamond Concerto. Each of the three movements is named after a famous diamond:Earth Star is rather stern in mood, opening with a free fantasy for the soloist over a static chord from the band. This leads to an Allegro Moderato in minor mode where small motives are gradually repeated and developed by both band and soloist.Ocean Dream uses a varied quote from the composer's Music for Battle Creek, including a melting slow melody that was originally written with Steven Mead in mind.Blue Heart was written, at Steven Mead's suggestion, in bebop style and takes the form of a jazz waltz. The quasi-improvisatory central section features a call-and-response passage for the soloist and upper woodwinds.Duration: 15:45

African Dreams (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Karrick, Brant
William Kamkwamba was raised in Malawi, an African country where magical thoughts prevailed but modern technology was a mystery. From books he read, young William imagined building a windmill that might, one day, bring electricity and water to his village and drastically change the lives of his neighbors. Hoping to someday study science, his country was debilitated by famine that forced William to drop out of school and forage for food as thousands throughout the country died of starvation. However, William's passion remained indefatigable and, using scrap metal, tractor parts, and bicycle halves, he ingeniously built a crude yet operable windmill that powered four lights and his radio. News of William's achievement soon spread beyond his country's borders, and the young boy who was once thought of as crazy became a hero to many around the world. Duration: 6.00
