    Homecoming - Alex Shapiro

Homecoming is a distinctly American piece of music which ventures emotionally from doubt, to hope, and finally to celebration. The most simple wind instrument of all, the human voice, echoes meaningful homecomings, wherever home may be and from whatever circumstance one returns. Written for the soldiers of the U.S. Army TRADOC Band, Homecoming seamlessly flows between traditional styles that originated in the U.S., from post-minimalist concert music to jazz. As the music grows into a waltz rhythm, welcoming smiles dance with it to the end as loved ones are reunited.

Up From Earth's Center - Rob Romeyn

This brilliant programmatic work from the pen of Rob Romeyn is an incredible display of beauty, sensitivity, emotion and vigorous intensity. The journey begins on the morning of the great 1868 Hawaii earthquake. Peaceful and beautiful sounds of the black sand beach of Punalu'u are heard as the sun rises. The music then develops, first with a statement of the traditional melody "The Earth Is Our Mother" to remind us to respect Mother Earth and be mindful of her incredible powers. As the tempo quickens we are musically transported into the events of the fateful day, as the earthquake and resulting Tsunami ensued. As the movement of the earth subsides, we return to the beach of Punalu'u as Mother Earth begins her renewal of new life. Certain to become a classic for concert and festival use, this is music of highest quality!

    Cryptogram - Kit Turnbull

Cryptogram (krip-to-gram): anything written in cipher. Cipher (si'fer): a secret code.Commissioned for the 50th Birthday of Paul Patterson, the composer has taken the letters P, A, U and L and adapted their Morse Code dots and dashes as a basis for the piece. Combinations of rich brass writing, juxtaposed with florid upper wind writing, provides a stimulating piece for an intermediate level band.
