The "Drunken Sailor" finally settles down and becomes respectable - though he does lurch about a little surprisingly from bar to bar! This is attractive music effectively scored.

Rondeau From Abdelazer (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Purcell, Henry - Farnon, David

Abdelazer?was a 17th century masque - a blend of poetry, dance, and instrumental music especially popular at the court of James I of England. Purcell wrote the music in 1695. This rondeau is a short dance in the masque which would probably have been forgotten had not Benjamin Britten made it popular when he used it as the theme for his "Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra."

    Agua's Whelm

A very exciting and contemporary work that is descriptive of the tragedy that occurred in Central America in 1541 when a long quiet volcano that had filled with water suddenly erupted, sending mud and water covering the city of Ciudad Vieja killing many and completely wiping out the city. The name of that volcano was Agua, which on that day brought whelm on to everything that its waters touched. This is the second published work by young composer Cory McBride and was written when he was a 16 year old high school student. Bold, unique and distinctive, includes solos for flute, tenor sax, bari sax & horn and it's an excellent programming choice for any festival or concert performance by better bands.

Bread and Games Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)

Panem et Circenses', Bread and Games were essential for keeping the citizens of ancient Rome in check. While the bread was meant for the poorest among the Romans, the Games were Popular Pastime Number One for everybody. There were different kinds of games, such as chariot races (especially popular with female spectators), or wild-beast fights, where lions, tigers, bulls or bears were set on one another or even on human beings. Most popular, however, were the Gladiator fights. In 'Bread and Games' William Vean depicts one of the many fights in the antique Colosseum. 1. Entrance of the Gladiators: By powerful bugle-calls the attention of the people was asked for, after which the Gladiators entered the Arena at the sound of heroic marching-music.2.Swordfight: We can hear that the fights were not mere child's play in this part.On the contrary, they were a matter of life and death and were fought accordingly.3.Mercy of the Emperor: Sometimes a wounded gladiator could be fortunate, depending on the mercy of the audience. Waving one's handkerchief meant mercy, a turned-down thumb meant no pardon. The Emperor had the right to take the final decision, but he usually complied with the wish of the majority of the public. 4.Lap of Honour: Gladiators were mainly selected among slaves, convicted criminals, or prisoners of war. Consequently, winning was very important, as it would mean fame, honour and sometimes even wealth. A lap of honour, therefore, was the winner's due reward. 06:00

ELEGY FOR ALBINONI (Advanced Concert Band) - Hanson, Shelley

Tomaso Albinoni (1671-1751) was a prolific Baroque-era composer whose works are now rarely performed. However, he was much admired by J.S. Bach who used examples of Albinoni's music in his teaching, and also used themes written by Albinoni as the basis for some of his own pieces. Elegy for Albinoni, a beautiful memorial piece in honor of this musical master, uses a romantic tone to set the stage for a theme based on one of Albinoni's violin sonatas. A rewarding work!
