Cordilleras de Los Andes - Arie Malando

Subtitled Bergen Cyclus (Cyclus of Mountains) as it should be considered a continuation of an earlier work Rivieren Cyclus (Cyclus of Rivers). The Dutch composer Malando was often inspired by original Latin-american music. Being a percussionist himself he often made use of exotic percussion-instruments in his orchestrations. Malando earned his greatest fame as a composer of tangos. His most famous tango Ol Guapa was said to be played almost every minute in some or other place in the world. Short before his death Malando made two tours to Japan where his music (and his orchestra) enjoyed a tremendous popularity.Kees Vlak is not only active as an arranger - as is the case with this Malando composition - but also as a composer in the Spanish and Latin-american idiom. In the Spanish genre he wrote several Suites: Paso Cabaio,Paso Flamenco, El Paso Montanesa and El Paso Moro Gitano. In the Latin-american genre he wrote the Antillian Suite and the Windward Islands Suite.

Nostradamus (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Schwarz, Otto M.

Nostradamus was one of humankind's greatest prophets. Many of his coded prophecies proved true. He lived at the time of the inquisition, and his predictions and medical therapies as a physician made him face consequences from the church. After he had been forced to flee several times and had lost his family to the plague, he devoted himself to clairvoyance. He wrote down many events in history in coded predictions. Although there is probably more than one possible way of interpretation, in our world, Nostradamus is still considered to be a unique personality. Whether he is degraded to a charlatan or turned into a myth, he surely has moved humankind with his prophecies. Otto M. Schwarz, soundtrack composer since 2001, wrote a cinematographic work about this man, who is probably the best-known prophet of the last 1000 years.

Tutued Toucan Can-Can (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Svanoe, Erika

The majestic and noble toucan dons its tutu and prepares for its grand entrance. What will the toucan ballet entail? Nimble hops on delicate legs? Short but graceful flights across the stage? Rousing kicks? Dramatic splits? Perhaps the grand movement of its large, brightly coloured beak would be the most effective use of its greatest asset. The toucan, inspired by other great birds of ballet, enters the stage, and begins to dance.Duration: 5.30

Conclusions, A Trilogy for Band (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Brakstad, John

Conclusions is inspired by three of the worlds greatest astronomers; their lifes, work and pioneering conclusions. 1: Copernicus. Nicolaus Copernicus lived in the 15th century. He introduced the idea that the planets rotate around the Sun rather than the Earth. This was a new and controversial world view which was not accepted in his lifetime. 2: Galileo. Galileo Galilei lived about a hundred years later and is sometimes called "the father of modern science". He is credited with the discovery of Jupiter's four largest moons. His discoveries supported Copernicus' model of the Solar System, and also showed that objects rotate around other planets than the Earth. Galilei was charged with heresy, and had to recant his claim that the Earth revolved around the Sun. "And yet it does move", he is supposed to have said. 3: Newton. Isaac Newton is known for his theory about the law of gravity and how it affects motion. This theory enabled him to accurately calculate the paths of the planets in the Solar System, and was a third conclusion in the astronomical tradition. In the same way that the three astronomers' independent conclusions build on ideas that are common to all three, Conclusions is built up of three independent movements which all include references to each other (melodic, harmonic, inversions etc.) Duration: 11.00
