The extremely popular American song Jingle Bells was composed in 1857 by James Pierpont for a Thanksgiving celebration in his church in Boston and it soon became part of the traditional Christmas repertoire. It turned into one of the most popular non religious Christmas songs in the world. Jingle Bells was subject to countless arrangements and here it is flavoured with a rhythmical samba style.

At the end of 1944, Allied troops invaded the Netherlands from Belgium. Hope and longing for freedom, which now seemed so close, swept through the Netherlands: Operation Market Garden was launched. Huge numbers of paratroopers made the dangerous jump to take over enemy territory on the south side of the Rhine. Fierce fighting and attempts to cross and secure the river resulted in heavy casualties for the liberating forces. Ground support from the south came too late and there was no alternative but to call off Operation Market Garden. What looked like a quick liberation of the Netherlands turned into a long, bitter struggle. To make matters worse, a harsh winter followed: hunger and cold ate away at hope and the prospect of a liberated Netherlands. The work opens with primordial, mysterious sounds representing the foreboding volcanoes of Hawaii. We are then introduced to Pele as a tall, beautiful young woman. This is one of the forms she can take and it represents her powers of creation and beauty. This gives way to the active and destructive Pele, often taking the form of an old woman, wrinkled and bent with age. The following lyrical section of the piece is the full statement of Pele's theme of creation and beauty. As this theme settles, we begin to hear the ground pop and crack letting us know that new lava is beginning to bubble and flow. Suddenly and violently, one of her volcanoes erupts, creating massive chaos and destruction. After the eruption subsides, Pele's theme of creation and beauty returns again. A wonderful addition to any concert or festival performance by mature bands. Exceptional in every respect!

Interruptions - Steven Bryant
Interruptions is a new, shorter version of one of Bryant's earliest works, Interruption Overture, and is filled with quirky humor and musical mayhem! The music begins with a lively melody using familiar, comfortable harmonies, butis soon interrupted by abrupt dissonance. The music resumes its earlier character, but these loud interruptions rudely reappear, and the music begins to take abrupt turns through different tonalities.
