Impressions from a Journey (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Stahli, Urs

I'm in the mountains... in Switzerland - in the Valais - on the Riederalp. I'm enjoying the view of the surrounding mountain peaks on this late summer afternoon.A alphorn plays a melody. The echo comes back once, twice, no, three times from the mountain slopes! It's getting dark. The melody of the evening blessing from Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel comes to mind. It is night.A new day begins! I make my way to Riederfurka, to Villa Cassel. There I am greeted by the sound of the orchestra. I enjoyed the music and my lunch. In the afternoon, the musicians invited me to a dance. As waltzing is not really my thing, I walk on to the Riederhorn. There I enjoy the wonderful view! I am happy!- Urs SthliDuration: 8.00

Fantasia on Welsh Nursery Tunes (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Williams, Grace - Jones, William A.

Grace Williams (1906 - 1977) from Barry, South Wales, was Wales finest composer. She studied composition at the Royal College of Music with Ralph Vaughan Williams and completed the Fantasia on Welsh Nursery Tunes in 1940. The iconic Fantasia, - her most popular work, which brought her to prominence - is a composition for symphonic orchestra based on traditional Welsh nursery tunes and lullabies. It is a light-hearted musical journey through childhood in eight traditional tunes. The jubilant start to the work is echoed in the finale, with a calmer, but effectively scored middle section. The Fantasia was featured in the 2024 Last Night of the Proms. This first Wind Band arrangement received its world premiere by Chalfont Wind Band April 1 2023.Melodies used include:There's Mam coming (Dacw Mam yn Dwad)The Bittern (Deryn y Bwn)Migildi, Magildi (nonsense words imitating the sound of a hammer on an anvil)Sleep my baby (Si lwli mabi)Gee-up, little horse (Gee Ceffyl Bach)Sleep, my pretty child) (Cysga Di, Fy Mhlentyn Tlws)Where are you going, my pretty maid? Winter Scene (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob

A depiction of a cold, snowbound winter scene. This work was written shortly after the composer I finished a little piece called Summer Song. Winter Scene originally started life as a guitar piece but was expanded in several ways when casting it for wind band. Without looking for specific imagery, the composer imagined something like the snowbound scenes found in the Renaissance art of Pieter Breugel the Elder d. 1569. The music begins with some icy dissonance in the brass before the slow processional of the tune is first stated. There is some contrasting material in the middle which changes colour and key before the main theme returns with its slightly acerbic accompaniment.Duration: 3.30

All That Glistens (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob

This concert piece was written during the time of the Paris Olympics in the summer of 2024. There is no direct thematic link between the two but the spirit of the occasion has undoubtedly seeped into the vivacity of the music with its fanfare-like opening and closing sections.Duration: 5.00

Sunlight Dancing (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Buckley, Robert

Sunlight Dancing was inspired by a walk through a forest on a bright summer day - the sunlight was flickering between the leaves and it seemed like the whole forest was dancing. This is a celebratory work expressing positive energy and optimism - designed to lift people's spirits. From the joyful opening to the beautifully reflective lyric section to the final exhilarating flourish, this piece is full of tuneful melodies, driving percussion and dynamic contrasts. Vaktparade (March of the Castle Guard) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Strand, Oyvind

When visiting Oslo I always try to manage to see the Castle Guards Parade marching from Akershus Fortress to the Royal Castle (in the summer season). There is always a feeling of spirit and solemnity when the military band leads the procession through the city and the Karl Johan Street up to the Castle, for the changing of the Castle Guards. A dear tradition for the locals as well as visitors to the Norwegian capitol. This march was composed after watching one of these parades in spring of 2018.The First military band to play the march was the Royal Norwegian Marine Band.- Oyvind StrandDuration: 3.45

Elegi (Elegy) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Torskangerpoll, Idar

This piece originates as a piano piece written by the composer as he was convalescing after an illness and operation. In the music there is an outlet for emotions of uncertainty and doubt, but also of hope for the future. The piece was later arranged for wind and brass band, and premiered at a music summer camp in 2021.This piece has a melancholy character and suits bands looking for a piece to work on sound, phrasing, dynamics and expression.Duration: 3.45
