Suite Pastorale, made up of three movements - Idyll, Playful Shepherd Boys, Rain Upon the Fields - is characterized by an idealization of the simplicity of country life in close contact with nature. Suite Pastorale depicts the eternal and fascinating myth of Arcadia: a world in which man lives in harmony with nature, immersed in bucolic forest landscapes, one of the most important imaginary places to escape to for those who were, and still are, tired of culture and civilization. The evocative Arcadian world is made almost mythological by the attention dedicated to it by poets, writers, playwrights, painters, and composers who over the centuries have drawn lifeblood from it for their works. Full of metaphorical meanings, it is a place of shelter, a place to live and sing about love, even if it means disappointment, and it is the place of civilization opposed to barbarism. It is a symbol of happiness, a real and intact image of reality, motionless in space and time, where nothing changes. £134.99The Secret of Mercury - Jan de Haan
This work was commissioned by the concert band Da Capo Leeuwarden from the Netherlands, which was linked with the Dutch postal service PTT up until 1995. Mercury happens to be the messenger of the gods - a kind of mailman, one could say. Yet the composer did not choose the god but the planet Mercury as his source of inspiration for this work in four uninterrupted movements. He created a multifaceted work in which the mysterious celestial body is represented, as well as a number of space missions exploring it. This interesting subject matter guarantees a composition that fascinates from start to finish.

Lux Futura (Light of the Future) was commissioned by the Royal Wind Orchestra Delft and is inspired by the letters 'D-E-L-F-T' using the letter notation system by Bla Bartk. In this 'Delft' cell, there is referral to the 'Trinitas', the bourdon bell of the Old Church in Delft, that only tolls during a funeral of a member of the Dutch Royal Family. The Delft melody switches to the 'Agneta March', which is a reference to the history of the Royal Wind Orchestra Delft. Further on the love theme, played by the bass instruments represents the love of the inhabitants for their city throughout space and time. In the middle movement, the beauty of the city is depicted by the coranglais (English horn) solo, as an ode to the lovely city of Delft. When performed, one can choose to use sound city samples recorded in Delft to create a truly magnificent spectacle. Seid (pronounced sayed was a divination ceremony practised by the Vikings which could be used to reveal knowledge of the future. During the ceremony, woman sang incantations and the Seeress (Vlva) passed into a kind of trance. In other arctic cultures similar ceremonies took place during which the Medicine man (Sage), or Shaman, would beat a drum covered with magic runes, and he too would pass into a trance, reaching the deepest part of his own sub-consciousness - a journey beyond time and space... "Seid" was commissioned by The Norwegian Band Federation and European Brass Band Assosiation for the European Brass Band Championship in 1996.
