The Dance - Robert W. Smith
Inspired by the paintings of impressionist Henri Matisse and featuring the alto saxophone, "The Dance" is the first movement of "Three Conversations With Matisse." Along with the well known Matisse painting of the same name, this unique musical statement can be described as forbidding, menacing, tribal and ritualistic. Written for the accomplished saxophone soloist, the band accompaniment is well within the technical range of most high school, university and community ensembles. A powerful and welcome addition to the saxophone and concert band repertoire!

The Music Lesson - Robert W. Smith
Inspired by the command and structure of two Henri Matisse paintings under the name "The Music Lesson", this powerful work for alto saxophone and band will become a staple of the repertoire. From the strict structure of the opening piano statement to the classically influenced melodic interplay with the saxophone, the piece moves through a flowing musical environment highlighted by a virtuosic cadenza. The recapitulation of the initial melodic line completes our music lesson and provides a strong conclusion to "Three Conversations With Matisse", a suite for alto saxophone and band.

£309.99Vulcan - Michael Daugherty
(2014) Vulcan for Concert Band is Grammy award winning composer Michael Daugherty's first work for the high school and intermediate level college band. The work is a colorful homage to Gene Roddenberry's interstellar universe as depicted in the classic American television series Star Trek (1966-69). The title refers to the fiery planet Vulcan, home world of half-human, half-Vulcan Mr. Spock. As the rational-minded science officer aboard the starship Enterprise (commanded by the hot-blooded Captain James T. Kirk), Mr. Spock grapples with the fascinating predicament of making decisions predicated on human emotion versus Vulcan logic. Daugherty has composed stirring, yet highly structured music that alludes to the Vulcan Pon Farr ritual, Vulcan telepathic mind-melds, and the volcanic planet itself. At the the Ann Arbor, Michigan world premiere (utilizing the combined forces of the Pioneer, Huron and Skyline High School bands), Vulcan was an immediate hit and will surely become one of Daugherty's most performed works. £149.40Cradle Hymn - Kim André Arnesen
Cradle Hymn, a Christmas lullaby with imagery of Mary and her infant, was written for the Nidaros Cathedral Girl's Choir and conductor Anita Brevik in 2010, and later arranged for SATB and TTBB chorus. The Lyrics were written by Isaac Watts (1674-1748).This arrangement was written by Christian Aftreth Eriksen in 2021, commissioned by Bunberry High School, Australia. It is scored for large concert band, but is playable for smaller forces through clever cross cuing: Eb clarinet, Contrabass Clarinet, Baritone Saxophone, Contrabassson and Double Bass can all be considered ad lib. All Oboes, Bass Clarinet, Bassoons and all Horns are cross cued.A Soprano Saxophone part is provided to cover the Oboe solos, and should only be used if no Oboes are available. The choice of Vibraphone or Marimba is left up do the conductor. Vibraphone will provide more resonance in the ensemble, if needed.

£79.99Commemoration - James Barnes
Commemoration was commissioned by the members of the Northwest North Carolina Bandmasters Association to recognize the distinguished career of Dr. William A. Gora, the longtime Director of Bands at Appalachian State University, who passed away in 2015. Bill was loved by his students, respected by his peers and cherised by his many friends. A brilliant musician, a fine conductor and a warm human being with a marvelous sense of humor, Bill has been sorely missed by all. Gora was friends with composer James Barnes for over 40 years. They met when Barnes was still in graduate school at Kansas and Gora had just finished his DMA at the University of Florida. When the NNCBDA asked Barnes to compose a work in Bill's honor, he was honored to do so. He decided to write a cheerful work for Bill, full of energy, color and melody, because he knew this is what he would have wanted; no funeral dirges for Bill Gora. The soft middle portion of the work, a hymn-like tune scored in saxophone choir, was included because Bill was a fine saxophonist and, for many years, the saxophone teacher at ASU.
