    Pacific Heights - Gorham

Pacific Heights draws its title from the famous historic San Francisco neighborhood of the same name. Established in the late 1800's this area of the city embodies Hollywood's vision of San Francisco with its views of the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. While the music is not intended to be programmatic, it captures some of the great sites of the city: the majestic Golden Gate Bridge, the rocky island which is home to our country's most infamous prison, as well as the many moods of this city known for its diversity, flower-power, steep rolling hills, earthquakes, and chilly winds off the ocean.

North Bay Vistas (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Smith, Robert W.

Composer Robert W. Smith's journey to the San Francisco Bay Area inspired this musical panorama. Beginning with an intriguing fanfare statement representing the unforgettable skyline of San Francisco and the unique images of the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges, our journey begins north over the waters of the bay. Sailing across the water, we are treated to magnificent vistas including both the city and the surrounding mountains. An early morning sunrise looking down on the vineyards of Sonoma was the inspiration for the center of the piece. The early morning mist combined with light and shadow creates a very peaceful scene that is not soon forgotten. The piece concludes with the return to the city providing a new perspective of this truly unique American landscape.Duration: 6.15

The Shadow of the Pilgrim - José Luis Peiró Reig

"The Shadow of the Pilgrim" is an evocative composition based on a legendary tale from Santiago de Compostela. It tells the story of a forbidden love between a cathedral priest and a cloistered nun from the convent of San Paio, once secretly connected by an underground passage beneath the Plaza de la Quintana. The priest, dressed as a pilgrim, waited for her in vain - and to this day, his shadow is said to return to the square each night. The music captures this haunting story through a passionate Lento, evoking both the long journey of the Camino de Santiago and the timeless longing of a love unfulfilled. A lyrical narrative of mystery, devotion, and eternal waiting.

Princess Mononoke, Medley - Joe Hisaishi

Series: New Sounds in Brass (NSB); Duration: approx.8'50"; Composed by Joe Hisaishi; Arranged by Takashi Hoshide. Arranger Takashi Hoshide says, "I have selected beautiful melodies from the soundtrack of 'Princess Mononoke' (1997, directed by Hayao Miyazaki) and arranged them into a medley. What can be said about these songs as a whole is that they combine a grand continental scale with the delicacy that reflects Japanese emotions. Since there are no upbeat songs in this selection, I had to work hard on the arrangement, but this allowed for creating contrasts and transitions between each scene in the performance. 'Ashitaka Sekki (English title: The Legend of Ashitaka)' - 'Sekki' means a story that is not recorded but passed down orally. In this anime, this can be considered a sub-main theme. The song starts with a feeling that the story is about to begin and, once the theme kicks in, aim for a grand performance to convey its scale. 'Encounter' - This is the music that plays during the scene where the protagonist Ashitaka meets San. Interestingly, the motif of the main theme 'Princess Mononoke' is used in this melody. Here, let's pursue the shifts in the timbre of individual phrases, creating a beautiful and aesthetic soundscape. 'Princess Mononoke' - This is the main title of the anime. The melody line is carried by horns and trumpets."
