The Unknown Journey was commissioned by Kwansei Gakuin University Symphony Band which was established in 1954 and has grown to become one of the top college bands in Japan. The composer chose the title as the piece seemed to create its ownmomentum as it developed, starting slowly and continuously increasing the tempo. Towards the end it gradually transmogrifies into the closing bars of Ravel's La Valse, a piece which perfectly characterises the idea of unstoppable momentum.

Christmas is the time of the year where everyone comes together, and peace, family and friendship bonds are strengthened. When selecting repertoire for your Christmas concert, it's difficult to find new arrangements that are both challenging and fun to work on, as well as fun for the audience. Crazy For Christmas is one of those pieces by the Belgian composer Bert Appermont. He uses canons and even fugues throughout this arrangement and foresees a spectacular ending. It is based on Il est n le divin Enfant and Away in a Manger but refers wittily to JingleBells, Deck the Halls, The Twelve Days of Christmas and Hark, the Herald Angels Sing. So 'crazy' all the way!

Philip Sparke's third symphony, A Colour Symphony, was commissioned by "sinfonischen blasorchester wehdel" conducted by Thomas Ratzek. In the five movements (white, yellow, blue, red and green) the composer creates links betweenthe instrumentation and harmonic elements and the actual colour of the spectrum the movement stands for. In order to create the greatest richness possible, Philip Sparke used a very large instrumentation including low woodwinds, harp, piano andcelli. A Colour Symphony is an impressive and iconic addition to the standard repertoire for large symphonic bands.

Written in 1899, the original piano version was arranged for orchestra by the composer and became a highlight of theFrench classical repertoire. Johan de Meij has created a special version for the world-famous trombone soloist Joe Alessi. This unique arrangement for solo trombone (Difficulty: 5) and wind orchestra sounds as if it was originally intended for thisinstrumentation. Few composers have had such an impact on Swedish music life as Tor Aulin (1866 1914). He studied violin and music theory in Stockholm 1877 83, and in Berlin 1884 86. In 1887 he founded the Aulin Quartet, which for more than 20 years played animportant role in broadening Swedish interest in chamber music. The quartet was often on tour with the composer Wilhelm Stenhammar at the piano.1889 1902 Aulin was the leader of the orchestra at the Royal Opera in Stockholm.At Aulinsinstigation the Concert Association in Stockholm (later The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) was founded in 1902, and he was its conductor until 1909. From then on he was the conductor of the Gothenburg ConcertAssociation (nowadays The GothenburgSymphony Orchestra).Besides being a first class violinist, Tor Aulin was also an accomplished pianist, and Edvard Grieg was deeply impressed by Aulin's rendering of his piano concerto.Aulins list of works is dominated by his musicfor violin. He wrote three violin concertos, the third of which still has a place in the repertoire.Four Aquarelles for violin and piano from 1899 is his most beloved composition. In 1996 Jerker Johansson arranged this work for soloinstruments, one for each of the four movements, and concert band. The solo instruments being clarinet, trumpet, flute and alto saxophone.

"Amalies Christmas" is a Norwegian TV series for children, produced by NRK in 1995, and broadcasted again in 19976, and in 2000.The program consisted of 24 episodes, and follows Amalie Wang (Anne Marie Ottesen) making preperations forChristmas in an old house where there lived goblins. The program was the first of many to follow, based on the author Gudny I. Hagens characters. The music is composed by Philip A. Kruse, and all episodes ended with the goblin family (HaraldHeide-Steen jr., Brit Elisabeth Haagensli og Pia Borgli) singing "Lullaby for small goblins".This arrangement for young concert band may be performed with different instrumental soloist or vocalist.Chords are included for piano/guitar. It isimportant to focus on the dynamics and the tempo. The soloist must be heard clearly and adding a choir in the refrains makes it even nicer. It is a melodic song that suits being performed in churches and rooms with ambience. The song is often usedaround Christmas time, but it is written as a small lullaby that can be played anytime.
