A Tom Sawyer Portrait (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Jarvis, Rebecca G.
Mark Twain's colorful characters come to musical life in "A Tom Sawyer Portrait!" The journey begins in St. Petersburg, Missouri, with a jaunty musical portrayal of Tom and Huck and a ragtime sequence which depicts the sleepy river town. An Americana-style ballad follows that is tender, lyrical and poignant. This segues into a "no holds barred" blues section representing the mighty Mississippi. The Portrait concludes with our heroes' return, featuring a recap of the opening theme augmented in the brass and accompanied by woodwind runs and exciting percussion. This is a great selection for the concert band that demands solid musicianship but will reward students for their efforts! Duration: 8.15

The Legend of Spirit Island (Euphonium Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
The Legend of Spirit Island was commissioned by the Twin Ports Wind Orchestra, Duluth, Minnesota (Mark Whitlock, conductor), to honour the euphonium player, Dick Carlson. The piece takes its title from a local legend about Spirit Island, which lies in a gap of the St. Louis River called Spirit Lake. The legend tells the story of Chaska, the son of a Dakota Chief, and Wetona, the daughter of Ojibwe Chief Buckado. He was handsome and she was beautiful; it wasn't long before they fell in love. This is a challenging euphonium solo in which the versatile soloist can explore very expressive melodic sequences, as well as energetic, technical sections. Duration: 8.00

Colorado (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Cesarini, Franco
The main theme of this overture is based on an old Indian song from the Arapaho tribe. The name Colorado comes from the Spanish word meaning 'coloured'. This term was originally used to refer to the river, as its waters turned red when running at full speed through the canyons, eroding the red stone. The State of Colorado is famed for no fewer than four National Parks, each providing breath-taking views. Let your imagination run wild as you travel through these amazing lands, with the help of the lively music with a great beat and fantastic colour.Duration: 8:15

Water Music, Suite from (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Handel, George Frideric - Vinson, Johnnie
The music of Handel is considered the culmination of the Baroque period of music history, and his Water Music (1717) has endured in popularity for nearly 300 years! Performed from a barge travelling on the River Thames, King George I is said to have liked the music so much that he ordered it repeated several times. Originally three suites each consisting of multiple movements, Johnnie Vinson has skilfully adapted this arrangement for young players using Alla Hornpipe from the Suite in D Major, and the Air and Allegro from the Suite in F Major.Duration: 4:20

Downtown Divertimento (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Meij, Johan
The inspiration for Downtown Divertimento comes from Johan de Meijs daily wanderings in Chelsea, in lower Manhattan. The day begins with a leisurely walk to Madison Square Park with his dog Alice. They visit the dog run where she meets up withother city canines. On the way back they have a moment of reflection looking at the nearby Flatiron Building, the striking triangular city landmark. He absorbs the spectacular views of the Hudson River and the majestic New York skyline as if seeing them for the first time.
