    Memories - Franco Puliafito

What better way than an original music composition to commemorate a friendship that fate has broken off all too soon? For the Banda Sociale di Roncone (Trento) there was simply no other way. It commissioned the author to write this piece which, in its compact structure, expresses human qualities such as friendship, vitality, pain and the determination never to forget the important human and musical contribution that such people have generously made to associations and the community as a whole. Memories was written as a sign of eternal friendship linking all those who in some way share the same passions, in both good and bad times, to which there is often no answer.

    Caleidoscopio - Lorenzo Pusceddu

The incommunicability between different cultures and worlds and the confusion that this generates lie at the heart of this work: the fanfare-like themes that characterise the introduction, together with the "Arabian" melodies of the Presto, represent these differences. The bare theme of the Andante, while offering a glimpse of hope, also describes the impossibility of a meeting and the pain this situation causes. The empty fifth and dissonance of the minor second are elements that feature throughout this work. In the Coda, moreover, all these ideas reappear "kaleidoscopically", amidst a convulsive and excitingly chaotic atmosphere.

Out of the Darkness, into the Light - Philip Sparke

Out of the Darkness, Into the Light is about optimism. All of us experience disappointments in our lives, such failed relationships or the loss of loved ones, but the indomitability of the human spirit allows us to overcome such set backs and get through the darker moments. For some, faith and religion may be the answer, but this piece is more about the internal strength that we can all call upon.Opening in sombre mood, the first phase of the work symbolises the doubts we all have about ourselves and our lives. The opening phrase on solo clarinet appears throughout the piece and could be seen as the central idea of the work, the human spirit itself. The faster, centralsection is about the struggle to overcome the pain we experience and at bar 88 the moment of catharsis occurs. This signals a change of mood and from then on, the clarinet motif is transformed into a feeling of joy and optimism. We have entered the light.

Rosa Gallica (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jacob

Rosa Gallica has been written to commemorate the centenary of the First World War. The work focuses largely on France as a lot of the fighting took place there. With the title Rosa Gallica (French rose), the composer wishes to emphasize the poetic image of the rose. The stem represents the years gone by - such as those taken up by the First World War - and the thorns refer to the conflict and the pain that the victims had to endure. The rose itself forms the picture of beauty - and symbolises opening up to a peaceful world. The piece depicts France from the end of the 19th century through to its role at the heart of the First World War and beyond. A spectacular and dramatic new work by Jacob de Haan. Duration: 8.30

Nurture (Windependence Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Fairlie, Edward

There are some people for whom the act of nurturing is innate. The work they do is often unheralded, acknowledgement of their effort the last thing on their mind. But nurturers carry pain, too. Their own burdens, anxieties and hardships often take a back seat to that nurturing impulse. This piece is a meditation on that idea; that some people, not without their own deep personal obstacles, can't help but live out the powerful instinct to hold those around them in a warm embrace of care. ~ Edward Fairlie Duration: 4:50

Zeus: King of the Gods - Romeyn, Rob

This monumental programmatic work from the pen of Rob Romeyn captures the myth and legend of Zeus, the mythical master of the gods and men. A sky god, he controls lightning, which he uses as a weapon, and thunder. It opens as Zeus becomes involved in the Trojan war, hurling lightning bolts at his opponents. The tension soon subsides as we are introduced to the eternally beautiful Hera, whom Zeus would eventually marry. The music then ensues as our story unfolds, as Zeus made his domain the mountaintops and clouds where he could survey all creation, and inflict pain and justice on all evildoers. Tension builds as Zeus battles Typhon in hand to hand combat, ending ultimately with Zeus throwing the enormous Mt. Etna at the monster, pinning him underneath. From here, the tension subsides, and a beautiful lyrical section builds to an ending of incredible power and grandeur as Zeus again reaffirms his stature as the ruler of Mt. Olympus. This exceptional work is a wonderful addition to any concert or festival performance!Duration: 8.15

Introduction Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)

The composer: A short concert-opener where I use Norwegian folk-tunes. I wanted to create a short musical picture of the Vikings running from the seashore towards some people they wanted to fight down. They used to drink something made of mushrooms and became very wild. They didn??t feel any pain, they didn??t feel any fear. They where called the Berserkings! 02:00
