£164.99Wilten Festival Overture - Philip Sparke
To celebrate the 350th anniversary of the Stadtmusikkapelle Wilten in Innsbruck Philip Sparke composed Wilten Festival Overture. A bold fanfare, led by the horns, forms the opening of the work from which an expressive theme unfolds until the full band reaches a climax. Short solo statements from saxophone, horn and trumpet lead to a recapitulation of this theme which melts into a rhythmic Vivo. A robust melody is is then played by the clarinets and taken up by the whole band before a legato figure leads to a cantabile theme, again presented by the clarinets. The original Vivo melody reappears before the opening fanfare is briefly heard and the work comes to an end with ashort Coda. A great experience for the whole band!

Declaration Overture - Claude T. Smith
"Declaration Overture" has a five-note motive in an opening slow section, followed by a driving Allegro where the original five-note motive is put through a series of variations. This work was commissioned by the Musikverein Prechtal e. V. (Germany) for its 100th anniversary in the year of 2021. The composition opens with a powerful rhythmic motif, which soon develops into the main theme of this brisk overture. The unwavering, joyful melodies and a positive atmosphere give the work a high-spirited energy. The strong pulse has the music firmly in its grasp and only quietens gradually in a pensive middle movement that seems to emanate from another world. This atmospheric passage can evoke dreamy thoughts and a variety of visions. But then the liveliness of the previous motifs returns, to take us back to the vivacious here and now, full of optimism and determination for the hundred years to come. On to a wonderful future! This short but solemn overture was written on the occasion of the 110th jubilee of Harmonie Hautcharage, Luxembourg. It is an homage to Jean-Paul Frisch and his son Gerard (the present conductor), who each have been conducting the ensemble for many years. Under their leadership, the band has developed and improved remarkably. The very first musical theme, presented during the introduction of this little overture, is based on the letters hidden in the names Jean-Paul and Gerard Frisch (in which h is considered b - as it is in German), thus aiming the spotlight on both key figures in the history of Harmonie Hautcharage. After the rather stately intro, the allegro is more joyful and lighthearted, thus depicting the optimism of the many young players of the band. The end is exciting and energetic: it radiates positivity and belief in the future. Duration: 5.30
