£55.00The Declaration of Arbroath - Andrew Duncan
Programme notes from the composer, Andrew Duncan:Originally written for The West Lothian Schools' Annual Concert 2006 and scored for Concert Band, Brass Band, Highland Bagpipes, Children's Choir and Narrator. This version has been rescored for Concert Band with optional parts for Highland Bagpipes and Narrator. The piece celebrates the internationally renowned Declaration of Arbroath. The music begins in the uncertain times of Scotland's early 14th century, following the Battle of Banockburn and the death of William Wallace. The narrator describes this scene and explains the origins of the Declaration. The music builds to a climax, but once again gives way to uncertainty, allowing the narrator to explain further the history surrounding the Declaration. A group of Scottish Nobles wrote the Declaration which was an appeal to the Pope to recognize Scotland's independence. The piece then reflects a positive outcome following the Pope's support of the Declaration. Further information is provided by the narrator which draws to a rousing build to express the emotive inspiration behind this composition.The original scoring (to include Concert Band, Brass Band, Highland Bagpipes, Choir and Narrator) is also available by request.

£248.99Missa Brevis Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
Missa Brevis, written for choir and wind band, was commissioned by the Conseil D?partemental pour la Musique et la Culture de Haute-Alsace (Dir.: Philippe Pfisterer) in Guebwiller (France), in celebration of the millennium of Pope Leon IX's birth in ?guisheim (France). The composer conducted the first performance on June 23, 2002. It was performed live for the French television channel France 2. The mass movements Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus, and Agnus Dei are very suitable for the Catholic as well as the Protestant liturgy. For this mass, various ways for performing in diverse variable strengths are possible. An instrumental performance is possible if the brass represents the choir parts. In this option, it is desirable for the brass to be positioned separately from the rest of the band (on a gallery, for example), so that the idea of two choirs is approached. In a performance with a large choir, the brass can work very well as a support. In that case, the dynamics of the brass should be adapted somewhat, since these are actually intended for an instrumental performance. You can also leave out the brass entirely for the benefit of the choir. For the accompaniment of smaller choirs, you can opt for a small ensemble from the band. This can also be a quartet, put together as desired. For the performance of this mass, the obvious choice is one of the above options. However, as an alternative, a performance with a combination of these options (vocally/instrumentally) is also possible - not just from an artistic point of view (variation), but also from a practical starting point - for example in the case that the choir has rehearsed only two movements. With a full strength, the conductor can vary the instrumentation to his or her liking. Then the brass can also play a role in the accompaniment (instead of supporting the choir). The following combinations are possible: 1. clarinet choir (from Eb Clarinet to Bass Clarinet) 2. clarinet choir + saxophones 3. brass (flugelhorns, horns, euphoniums, bass section) 4. brass (2 trumpets / 2 trombones) 5. double reeds (optional + flute, optional + string bass) 6. tutti 7. all winds 8. all brass In a performance by brass band and choir, it is usually advisable to leave out option 1 (choir + brass + band). The choir sings self-reliantly, accompanied by a full brass band. In an instrumental performance, you can consider a combined quartet (two cornets and two trombones) + brass band. This arrangement can be performed by a choir with either an orchestra, band or piano accompaniment. There are different choral versions available for Mixed Voice Choir - both SATB (GM131) and, for those with a shortage of male voices, SA+Men (GM134) - for Upper Voice Choir (SSA - GM132) and for Male Voice Choir (TTBB - GM133). The orchestra score and parts (GMCP020) can be used either on its own or to accompany a choir.The recruiting song "Your King and Country Want You" starts us off followed by "Goodbye, Dolly Gray" as the soldiers leave for war. "Belgium put the Kibosh on the Kaiser" is followed by some proper trench songs - various lyrics were improvised by the soldiers!! - "Three German Officers crossed the Rhine" and "They were only playing Leap-Frog". "The Bells of Hell go Ting-a-ling-a-ling" leads to strains of "Stille Nacht" recalling the Christmas truce. "When this Lousy War is Over" and "There's no place like Home" are balanced by "Land of Hope and Glory" before the Americans arrive with "The Caissons go Rolling Along" and "Over There". "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" brings us towards a rousing finish save for an optional "Last Post-lude" to end reflectively.
