A magnificent programmatic work for symphonic band that is an offering to Pele, the Goddess of Hawaii's volcanoes. The work opens with primordial, mysterious sounds representing the foreboding volcanoes of Hawaii. We are then introduced to Pele as a tall, beautiful young woman. This is one of the forms she can take and it represents her powers of creation and beauty. This gives way to the active and destructive Pele, often taking the form of an old woman, wrinkled and bent with age. The following lyrical section of the piece is the full statement of Pele's theme of creation and beauty. As this theme settles, we begin to hear the ground pop and crack letting us know that new lava is beginning to bubble and flow. Suddenly and violently, one of her volcanoes erupts, creating massive chaos and destruction. After the eruption subsides, Pele's theme of creation and beauty returns again. A wonderful addition to any concert or festival performance by mature bands. Exceptional in every respect!

Montana Fanfare (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
This piece was composed as a birthday present for the Austrian conductor Walter Rescheneder to acknowledge the strong support he has given to the composer, Thomas Doss. Doss drew the inspiration for this fanfare from a mountain hike in the Salzkammergut. A powerful fanfare reveals enthusiasm and triumph. It is an exulting feeling and gives boundless freedom to look down into the depths from high up giving a view of the stunning landscape. Vranjanka (pronounced VRAHN-yahn-kah) means "From Vranje," a town in southern Serbia. It is loosely based on the traditional folksong ano Duo. The melody is extant in two versions, one in 7/8 and one in 3/4. The musical form of the piece starts with a fairly slow introductory section, a faster second section cast in a set of variations on the folksong. Vranjanka was commissioned by Timothy and Hilary Reynish in memory of their son William. Duration: 9.00

Dreaming of Dreams - Thomas Kelly
Dreaming of Dreams is a slow-paced and 'feel-good' piece, written for grade 2 Wind Band. After a short reflective introduction, the light and delicate main melody is introduced by the first clarinets followed by a broad and nostalgic counter melody at letter B played by the tenor saxophone, bassoon, first trombone and euphonium. At section D the main melody returns in the first clarinets, this time augmented by the first trumpets and at E we hear the main melody and counter melody together. After a repeat of the opening material, a new melody is featured at letter G played by the first flutes in a new key. The main melody and counter melody are then heard for one final, triumphant time, back in the home key. Fragments of the main melody are then heard throughout different sections of the band as the piece fades away to the final chord.

Program NotesOriginally written as the 'show opener' for one of The Salvation Army's spectacular annual Christmas Carol concerts in London, and premiered by The International Staff Band, Stephen Bulla's overture The Proclamation of Christmas is an extended work that features a number of popular Christmas tunes, including Hark The Herald Angels Sing, Ding Dong Merrily on High, and The First Nowell. There are also two slightly less well-known tunes that are linked to the carols - While Shepherds Watched and Angels from the Realms of Glory - and the piece concludes with a final flourish from O Come, All Ye Faithful.Its dramatic opening and imaginative structure make it a rewarding piece to rehearse and perform, and it certainly fulfills all the requirements of a Christmas show opener! So, we firmly believe that this overture will be a popular addition to Christmas repertoire for concert band in the same way as it was in its original version for brass band.
