This jazz ballad from 1930 is probably one of the most covered standards of all times. The most famous interpretation dates back from 1960, covered by the one and only Ray Charles. Since then, in 1979 the song was declared the official state anthem for Georgia in the United States. Top arranger Peter Kleine Schaars has now made an amazing arrangement for band using the Ray Charles version - it's so close to the original that you can still feel the vibe of the 60s. £284.99Symphony for Wind Ensemble (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Stephenson, James M.
The symphony is in four movements. The first movement starts a single triangle note, followed by a guitar strum. The movement anxiously attempts to churn into action, only to be stifled repeatedly by the single triangle note. Finally, with the guitar as inspiration, the main theme gets under way, revealing an almost Spanish, or even Eastern European flavor. Ideas and themes get reworked, developed, repeated and augmented throughout the movement, before finally closing out just as it began, but in reverse: this time guitar followed by triangle. The second movement steals from an angular and shrieking motif of the first, but is presented in opposite fashion: with the warm blend of the low brass. Hints of iconic military symbolism are interspersed throughout this movement, as homage to the commissioning ensemble. The main theme is inverted and awarded to a solo trumpet midway before giving way to a brass fanfare, though not done loudly, but here muted, from afar. The low brass return at the end, fading away to nothing as the bell tolls. The third movement is merely a short interlude - a break, in almost Gershwin-like fashion - from the seriousness of the movements that precede and follow. Lastly, the fourth movement is a wild one: with mixed meters and plentiful percussion penned to propel the movement throughout. The movements' themes are all reworkings of material presented earlier. Samuel Scheidt (1587 - 1654) was a German composer, organist and teacher of the early Baroque era, and was one of Germany's most distinguished composers at that time, especially in the field of keyboard music. His three volumes of Tabulatura nova (1624) are a monumental compendium of song and dance arrangements, sets of variations, fantasias, toccatas, fugues and liturgical pieces (often plainsong-based) for the Lutheran Mass and Office. Likewise his four books of Geistliche Konzerte illustrate the ways of elaborating a chorale, fusing declamatory ideas with contrapuntal writing. Scheidt was the first internationally significant German composer for the organ, and represents the flowering of the new north German style, which occurred largely as a result of the Protestant Reformation. Scheidt's music is in two principal categories: instrumental music, including a large amount of keyboard music, mostly for organ; and sacred vocal music, some of which is a cappella and some of which uses a basso continuo or other instrumental accompaniment. Edited for double chorus by David Willcocks, this arrangement represents one in the Series of Band Arrangements compatible with David Willcocks' Carols for Choirs.

A Child's Garden of Verses has a very special meaning for me. Bob Jager, a family friend, was visiting in our home, and my wife, Mitzi Noble, a soprano soloist, was singing to his children. Bob's two young children became so enthralled with the music that Bob wanted to capture that moment. So he composed this piece for Mitzi, and dedicated it to his children, Kathleen and Matthew. The text is from Robert Louis Stevenson's poems: I. Happy Thought; II. The Wind; III. The Land of Counterpane; IV. From a Railway Carriage; V. Escape at Bedtime. Bob writes: The ideal performance instrumentation would be one on a part. If a larger group is used the balance should be kept proportional. In a few places the terms Solo or One are used where the sonority is critical, and this should be strictly followed. Above all, the singer should never feel forced by the ensemble. This work was composed in 1972, and was never published. I am pleased that Bob has allowed me now to publish it under Noble Music Publications, so that it may be available for others to perform and enjoy. Mitzi writes: Although we did not have access at the time, the ideal performance would be with a throat mic so that the soloist is free to move around the stage and sing, as though singing and relating to children sitting on the front row.

Lo! He Comes with Clouds Descending is a hymn with a text by John Cennick (1718-1755) and Charles Wesley (1707-1788). For All the Saints was written as a processional hymn by the Anglican Bishop of Wakefield, William Walsham How. The setting by Vaughan Williams was included in The English Hymnal which was published in 1906 for the Church of England by Oxford University Press. The music editor was composer and music historian Ralph Vaughan Williams. This hymnal used his new setting which he called Sine Nomine (literally, without name) in reference to its use on the Feast of All Saints, 1 November (or the first Sunday in November, All Saints Sunday). It has been described as one of the finest hymn tunes of the 20th century. This arrangement adheres in form to the original RVW orchestration, including all eight verses and an optional organ part, which is the standard format in many hymnals. It may be performed as accompaniment to a congregational hymn, with choir, or as a band piece alone.

The White Thrill is a composition written on behalf of the "Musikkapelle Sankt Anton am Arlberg", in Austria. The theme refers to the ski race "Der weisse Rausch", that takes place every year in Sankt Anton. The composition is in an overture form, with a majestic introduction, a fast part, a slow part and a reprise of the fast part. One theme characterizes the entire composition, with its pleasantly syncopated and fascinating rhythms; symbolizing in music the sinuous gait of the track and the rapid maneuvers of the skiers. In the introduction, the majestic aspect, symbolizes the charm of the summits covered with snow, the grandeur of the alpine landscape. In the slow part, one can imagine the quiet of winter nights lit by the moon and the stars. A beautiful and ingenious piece. Duration: 8.00

This well-known piece by John Rutter is set in a subtle Latin mode, to which the arranger has enhanced by adding castanets, maracas, claves, and congas. The arrangement is written for combined band and chorus, but may be performed by band alone, featuring a variety of instruments carrying the melody and its harmonies. It is written one-half step (one semi-tone) lower than the original presentation to better accommodate band instruments.
