Fanfare for Hope was commissioned in honor of the inauguration of Father James P. Burns, the 14th President of Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. The fanfare is based on the hymn tune Melita, more commonly known as the Navy Hymn, "Eternal Father, Strong to Save," with the text "My hope is built on nothing less..." serving as the inspiration for the piece. The opening brass fanfare features the uplifting first notes of the tune transitioning into a legato treatment for the woodwinds and horns. The theme builds as the brass and percussion eventually return leading back to the original fanfare. The music ends triumphantly, with the entire ensemble joining in celebration.

Made popular by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Grammy winning performance in 1959, Peter Wilhousky's famous arrangement of Battle Hymn of the Republic has remained a staple to this day. In this Critical Edition for Band edited by Justin P. Tokke, a new arrangement has been crafted based on Wilhousky's original orchestral scoring. To enhance playability, generous cross-cuing and doubling of the choral parts have been applied in cases where the band version is played without voices. Program NotesOriginally conceived as a brass band tone poem, A Psalm of Praise gained huge popularity when it was first published in 1980. When it first appeared in print, the work was widely performed by Salvation Army bands around the world. It is full of interest and presents plenty of what for many bands will be realistically achievable levels of musical and technical challenge.As with much Salvation Army music, it was inspired by words from scripture, specifically from Psalm 100. Musically, it is based on the well-known hymn tune Praise My Soul the King of Heaven, with motifs and fragments of the tune appearing throughout the work in various guises alongside the original thematic material.James Curnow's skillfully economic use of melodic and rhythmic ideas is demonstrated to perfection in this work, which will be rewarding to rehearse in detail and perform and will provide a useful addition to concert repertoire.

Variations on 'Laudate Dominum' - Edward Gregson
The theme is a noble hymn tune by Sir Hubert H. Parry, associated with the words 'O praise ye the Lord'. There are seven contrasting variations that will provide much interest to the player as well as the listener, the seventh of which is a fugato which leads into a triumphant finale where the theme is heard for the first time in its completion. This, we feel, will be a significant work for Wind Band as it has been for the brass band movement.
