The Spell is a musical interpretation of an old legend from the Alpstein, a mystical mountain area in the east of Switzerland. According to the tale, a shepherd boy, Hennes, cared for his animals on the alpine pastures, but many of the animals fell ill with a terrible plague and died. The mountain spirit appeared to Hennes out of the mists of Sntis and so the story unfolds... The music of The Spell follows the narrative of this legend, in which musical motifs are assigned to the essential elements of the story, a technique seen in late romantic repertoire by composers such as Wagner or Richard Strauss.

Good Tidings of Great Joy is based on the biblical texts according to Isaiah and St. Luke. The christmas Story has been told many times in oratorio and cantata form, but this version is told instrumentally. The success and uniqueness of this composition results from the composers careful intertwining of over 40 Christmas Carols and themes including excerpts from Handel's Messiah and Bach's Christmas Oratorio. Each stran dis like a threat intricately woven, the more familiary the strands are to the listener, the finder the tapestry becomes. The musical substance of the piece is sufficient to tell the Christmas Story, althought the use of prgramme notes, citing the verses of the scripture used, or the optional narration provided, will help clarify the progress of the story to some of the listeners. In addition ot eh optional narration, an optional unison chorus on "O Come O Ye Faithful" is incorporated at the end of the composition.

From the great acclaim with which the musical was received, it became clear that the life of the Empress of Austria still appeals to the imagination. Although Elisabeth's life (1837-1898) as an Empress has a fairy-tale-like beginning, it takes a gloomy turn. In this production, Luigi Lucheni, the man who finally takes her life, tells her story. Death plays a major role throughout Elisabeth's life. In the musical, an equally mysterious and attractive man portrays the phenomenon of death, seducing her to the realm of death time after time. Elisabeth's life resembles a fairy tale when she marries the Emperor Franz Joseph at the age of sixteen. Her mother-in-law, Archduchess Sophie, does not make it easy on Elisabeth. But it is life itself that puts the Empress to the test. First, her youngest daughter dies. Then, not long after her son Rudolf is born, her happiness is clouded when her mother-in-law decides she must take pity on him. After her husband's unfaithfulness and Sophie's death, Elisabeth is so disillusioned that she chooses a travelling existence without realizing her husband and her son, Rudolf, miss her. Rudolf's loneliness is one of the reasons he commits suicide. The accumulation of disappointments in Elisabeth's life almost drives her into the arms of Death.
