Its inspired by Native American musical influences as well as the imagery of a powerful and dramatic storm that appears suddenly, sweeping viciously across the Midwestern plains. At first brooding on the horizon and later exploding with intensity, Dark Cloud represents the challenges and strife of a people battling the fierce and unpredictable elements in a time before technology.

As with most of Gilroys compositions, the percussion section plays an important role as indicated by a galloping rhythm first introduced by a solo woodblock. This fun and energetic work will provide a musical exclamation point to any wind band performance.

Parsifal, written in 1882, was the final opera by composer Richard Wagner (1813-1883). The prelude is a miniature masterpiece consisting of only 116 measures. The form of the prelude is similar to that of the classical three-movement overture and consists of four musical motives: the mystical realm of the Holy Grail; the Grail itself in the Dresden Amen; Faith, represented by the brass chorale; and the Agony of Amfortas. This transcription by John R. Bourgeois faithfully adheres to Wagners intent both in key relationships and orchestration.

The folk song Ten Thousand Miles, also known as The Turtle Dove, captures the essence of the Aeolion mode in a warm, somber, yet flowing melodic line. Centrifuge was written for the 2015 Southeastern Louisiana Middle School Band Camp and its director, Paul Frechou. This piece portrays the a centrifuge vigorously spinning with no sign of slowing down or stopping. An allegro tempo is used to fuel the drive and impetus throughout this energetic musical depiction of a whirling perpetual motion dynamo. The opening theme is first presented by clarinets playing in their lowest register as the machine starts up and begins to build up speed. Underlying the entire work is a pulsating percussion section which provides the thrust and forward motion along with various syncopated rhythms contributed by the winds.
