£116.40Anacreon Ouverture - Luigi Cherubini
Luigi Cherubini (1760-1842) was one of the leading figures in the musical world of the early nineteenth century, being active as well in Paris, London and Vienna as in his home country Italy. He became the first inspector of the Paris Conservatory of Music where he taught composition from 1816 onwards and was director from 1821 to 1841. Besides his famous 'Requiem in C minor' he wrote some thirty operas, fallen into oblivion except for the overtures, and also several marches for wind band. 'Anacreon' is a ballet-opera in one act written and first performed in 1803. The composition is rather representative for Cherubini's style and boasts several pleasant melodies fitting in a distinct structure. The overture is written in a simple classical style. The introducing largo leads to the central allegro and then the themes are developed in a fascinating way.

The French composer Georges Bizet (Paris, 1838 - 1875) is not only famous because of his opera 'Carmen' and his stage music for 'L'Arlsienne'. His opera in three acts, 'Les Pcheurs de Perles' (The Pearl Fishers) based on a libretto by Cormon and Carr was premiered without real success in Paris in 1863. Yet, this exotic musical drama, set in Ceylon (the actual Sri Lanka), boasts some very beautiful tunes, such as this duet, here in an arrangement by Willy Hautvast for two trombones and wind band.

The early life has begun. Hardly conscious of its environment, the child is resting in its mother's loving embrace.Part 3: Mediodia - Midday. Now is the time! Time to work, to love and to dance in the midday sun, but also to start the fight, before strength is flowing away. Let's not waste time!Part 4: Tarde - Twilight. The day is not over yet, but time passes by. Dusk is falling, the end approaches inevitably...Part 5: La Noche - Night. The comforting dark relieves the strong anxiety of the soul. The 'suite Arogno' is a musical evocation of the history of this small village on the Alps, at the border with Italy. The first movement describes the travel of architect Adamo da Arogno to Trento where he will build the cathedral (13th century). The second movement celebrates the entry of Arogno into the Swiss Confederation in 1516. In the third movement you can hear the invasion of the Austrian troops in 1799. The fourth movement describes the complex move of a complete clock factory from the Jura Canton to Arogno in 1873 and the last movement evokes the arrival of the first postal car in 1925.

£61.00Transeamus usque ad Bethlehem - Franz Schneider
The original piece was written by Franz Schneider (1737- 1812), organist and musical director at the Benedictine abbey of Melk on the Danube, for choir, string quartet, two trumpets and timpani. This arrangement can be performed with choir and band, without choir or by a mixed ensemble or band. Instead of using the complete choir, one can also only use the first choir part solo with accompaniment of the quartet parts. Therefore, the four part mixed choir score has alternatively been arranged for multipart wind ensemble (from a quartet).The original string parts have been arranged for symphonic band. Thanks to the cue notes, the passages intended for large band can also be performed by smaller ensembles in a most satisfactory way. The various instrumentation possibilities are clearly indicated in the instrumentation lists of the wind quartet and orchestra. The complete percussion part is totally 'ad libitum'.
