Using 900 Miles and The Wayfaring Stranger for compositional material, thematic elements from both are interwoven into the overall musical fabric. 900 Miles' lonely railroad worker is heard in woodwind train whistle effects and the homesickness of The Wayfaring Stranger, as heard in the movie "1917", is effectively portrayed by a moving treatment using long tones with a continuing rhythmic accompaniment. This solemn overture was written for concert band to commemorate the 20th Festival Bandistico Besana in Brianza for 2024. This multifaceted work features three movements: the serene and solemn Corale solenne, which is then followed by Danza con eleganza, in which alternating changes of time signature form a jaunty and also somewhat whimsical whole. The Finale trionfale is thematically based on the opening chorale, though now in a festive guise. Frequent modulations convey the melodies and themes in various keys, resulting in a wonderful harmonic colourfulness. Viva Besana, viva la musica!

Richard Strauss' Wiener Fanfare, the shorter version ofFestmusik der Stadt Wien - a piece originally written for ten trumpets, seven trombones, two tubas, and timpani - was the basis ofthis arrangement for concert band by Franco Cesarini. Strauss completed the "Festmusik" on 14 January 1943 after having previously received the "Beethoven Prize" in 1942. He dedicated the piece to the City Council of Vienna as a sign of his gratitude. Strauss conducted the premiere of this work in the Festival Hall of Vienna City Town Hallon 9th April 1943.An arrangement that highlights the characteristics of Franco Cesarini's writing.
