Simple, elegant and beautiful, this setting of the traditional African-American hymn is a welcome addition to the beginning band repertoire. Lyrical, flowing lines provide a welcome opportunity to teach phrasing. Full band statements combined with both woodwind and brass choir features create a unique teaching opportunity for the very beginning band. Although the original melody and this arrangement use only six notes in their construction, this setting is suitable for performance by bands at multiple levels. Highly recommended!

Known primarily for his extraordinary film scores, Michael was also a tremendous advocate for school music programs. One of his final compositions, this work (originally titled Quintet) commissioned by the Canadian Brass was retitled Tribute after his death. It has been beautifully scored for band by John Moss.
