Toccata "Atalanta" (Windependence Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bonelli, Aurelio - Hanson, Shelley

Woodwind and percussion players usually are unfamiliar with the antiphonal brass choir tradition. I made this modern, more easily readable version of Bonelli's classic 1600 Toccata for flexible wind ensemble with optional percussion, so that as few as 8 players up to full symphonic band could play in this style. I've used it as a dramatic concert opener, with the second, smaller group positioned behind the audience. ~ Shelley Hanson

Red Sky At Morning (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Hoefle, Heather

Red Sky at Morning?is a great piece for teaching young musicians to play long phrases and expressive dynamics. The brass players blow air through their instruments (without buzzing) at the beginning and the end to imitate the wind and waves of the sea. The melody in the minor mode portrays the uncertainty one might feel on a ship with inclement weather on the way.?

Walking to the Sky (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Buckley, Robert

Walking to the Sky takes an epic, cinematic approach to celebrate humankind's collective quest for wisdom and transcendence. It was inspired by a 100-foot Jonathan Borofsky sculpture, which creates the illusion of a group of people walking skyward into infinity. With pulsing percussion, heroic brass, haunting melodies, sudden shifts in dynamics and dramatic key changes, everyone in the ensemble gets a chance to star in this exciting mini-movie score. To add even more grandeur, there is an optional choir part (that could be played on a synthesizer).Duration: 3:45

Ave Maria (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Biebl, Franz - Cameron, Robert

First published in Germany in 1964, Franz Biebl's Ave Maria was originally scored for seven-part men?s choir. This expressive transcription is based on a mixed choir version in order to better match the registration of a wind ensemble. Layered woodwinds and brass create the effect of the choral version's overlapping male and female voices. Duration: 5:40

Gloriana (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bocook, Jay

Commissioned by Furman University for the inauguration of its 12th president, Jay Bocook's Gloriana is based on The Faerie Queene, an incomplete English epic poem written by Edmund Spenser and dedicated to Queen Elizabeth I. In the poem, Queen Elizabeth is represented as the faerie queene herself, Gloriana. This stately work for winds and percussion has a regal quality enhanced by soaring melodies and punctuated with fanfare-like brass figures. The optional organ part provides an added dimension to the overall uplifting effect.Duration: 3:20

Dogon (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Houben, Kevin

Dogon whisks the audience off on a journey to the steep slopes of the Dogon Valley. Majestic brass sounds sketch the exotic culture of the Malian Dogon people. The Dogon see the valley as both a threat and a promise for the future. This is represented in dark and mysterious chords. Now three soloists (horn, trumpet and soprano saxophone) bring the work to a dazzling conclusion, reminiscent of the colourful masked dances of the Dogon.Duration: 9:30
