Marching Winds was commissioned as the set piece for the Youth Festival Singapore 2010, a competition for all the youth orchestras in Singapore. As the title indicates, it is written in the form of a march. The opening fanfare leads directly to the modal main theme. It is contrasted by a second, legato theme, which builds to the climax of the piece. The main theme makes an appearance again before the piece comes to a finish.

The versatile Dutch composer Kees Vlak (Amsterdam 1938) proves that also he knows how to write a fine march. 'Marching Time' is a kind of pastiche of a thrilling swing march as introduced with US Air Force Bands by Glenn Miller's version of 'Saint Louis Blues March'. Vigorous drum solos give this modern march a martial character so that it can easily be used as an original quick march. This march was composed in 1980 and was commissioned by the S.O.M.N.O., the then umbrella organization for all Dutch band associations.

Once in Royal David's City
Since 1919, Once in Royal David's City has been used to commence the worldwide BBC broadcast of the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols on Christmas Eve from the University of Cambridge in England. Contrasting the pomp of a royal procession with gentler passages, this arrangement is mindful of the quiet eve evoked by the lyrics. Highlights include opening chimes and bells, a marching marcato section, and an ending flourish in the final measures.

Feel the Spirit is a collection of seven spirituals originally arranged for mezzo-soprano, choir and orchestra, now which have been arranged for mezzo-soprano, choir and Concert Band, and which can be performed by Band alone. All the pieces are familiar spirituals, skillfully and delightfully scored with optional audience participation to 'bring down the house'. The moods go from exuberant Dixieland with optional clarinet and trombone ad lib solos to a somber and dark mood, conjuring up the depth of feelings for which the spirituals are noted. The music is available either as a complete suite of seven pieces, or as individual pieces which may be purchased separately.
