March of the Roughnecks
This new concert march heralds back to the early days of the oil boom in the early 1900s. Commissioned by the Glenpool High School Band, commemorating one of the early oil field discoveries (the "Glenn Pool") in Oklahoma, this march recollects the undeniable spirit of the early petroleum pioneers and oil field laborers (called "roughnecks"). The roughnecks worked long, hard hours to drill for the "black crude" which helped to define the Tulsa area as the "oil capitol of the world" for many decades. The spirited and energetic style of the march makes it a "must play" for festival competition or concert performance.

The MGB March was commissioned in 2004 by the Swiss railway corporation "Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn" and first performed by the Belalp Concert Band on the occasion of a march music festival. A journey on the Swiss railway can take you through some of the worlds most beautiful scenery with one of the most spectacular journeys being through the Swiss Alps between Zermatt to Disentis and Andermatt to G?schenen. On this journey of less than 100 miles you climb over 3300 meters, run through 33 tunnels, cross 126 bridges and pass through 47 stations en route. When visiting Oslo I always try to manage to see the Castle Guards Parade marching from Akershus Fortress to the Royal Castle (in the summer season). There is always a feeling of spirit and solemnity when the military band leads the procession through the city and the Karl Johan Street up to the Castle, for the changing of the Castle Guards. A dear tradition for the locals as well as visitors to the Norwegian capitol. £49.50A Moorside March (Flexible Ensemble - Score and Parts) - Holst, Gustav - Brand, Michael
Holst composed A Moorside Suite for Brass Band in 1928. It is in three movements, this March being preceded by a Scherzo and Nocturne. It is an extraordinary mature work for band from a master composer. There is very little fortissimo writing and there are no semiquavers at all. Instead, Holst has written clean melodic lines with each part being woven into a texture based on the modal lines of English folk music; but these represent its stylistic origin rather than using actual folk tunes as in Holst's earlier band writing. The March is stirring and flowing and is an ideal standalone piece to open or close any concert or festival programme. Duration: 4.15
