Irish Reel - Wind Band - Benjamin Britten
Britten wrote Irish Reel in 1936 as the title music for a documentary film entitled 'Around the Village Green'. It is a bravura piece, exhibiting all the energy and strong orchestral colours typical of the composer at that time, and makes good use of a traditional reel tune with the evocative title'The Bottom of the Punch Bowl'.Guy Woolfenden's transcription for symphonic wind band skilfully captures all the fun and sparkle of this ebullient score.

Irish Rising
In Ireland's quest for independence, the Easter Rising of 1916 was a pivotal event that helped shape history and fan the flames of Irish freedom. Here is a sparkling medley of tunes from Ireland's rebellious past. The familiar Minstrel Boy leads to a lively setting of Wind That Shakes the Barley. The haunting, yet dramatic Foggy Dew then leads to the stirring march strains of The Boys of Wexford which features tin whistles (opt. flutes or piccolo) along with a driving rhythmic pulse. Dur: 5:20

Four Irish Dances (Prestige Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Arnold, Malcolm - Rogers, Ron
Malcolm Arnold's Four Irish Dances are from the latter stage of his career. The 1986 piece complements his other regional dance suites for orchestra, including Cornish, English and Scottish dances, though it darker in mood and colour. Stomping brass and drums in the opening Allegro con Energico give way to two spare middle movements: a Comodo made from anguished melodic imitation and a lilting Piacevole with eerie solo piccolo and miniature trio for trumpets. The 11 minute piece concludes with a wild, contrapuntal jig in triple time. The original orchestra version of the work was premiered at the Leeds Castle Festival on 10 October 1987, by the Wren Orchestra conducted by the composer.

Irish Tune from County Derry (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Grainger, Percy Aldridge - Romeyn, Rob
Percy Grainger's "Irish Tune from County Derry" is unquestionably one of the most beloved standards of the concert band repertoire. Rob Romeyn's brilliant arrangement for the Command series of this iconic work has been skillfully and carefully adapted to better fit the instrumentation of a smaller ensemble, thus allowing the piece to be performed effectively by many more bands who would otherwise not have the opportunity. All of Grainger's iconic melodic and harmonic lines and harmonic structure are present and left intact. We predict this wonderful arrangement will become a classic and will be a valuable addition to the repertoire for many years to come. Great music for younger performers! Duration: 4.15
