A Little Irish Suite consists of three movements, all based on Irish folk tunes. Clear structure and crisp harmonies complemented by plain, comprehensible melodies, are characteristic of this piece. It offers conductors the opportunity to work on tone, balance, phrasing as well as on technique with their ensemble. As with all works in the Compact Band Series, A Little Irish Suite features optional parts for instruments that are played less frequently. Conductors can pickand choose the parts needed to best fit the music and the musicians available, to determine the best possible instrumentation for their own ensemble. Irish Sketches - Luc Gistel
As its title suggests this composition is a musical evocation of Ireland. The original themes of this work are strongly influenced by traditional Irish folk music. Each of the three movements reflects part of the Irish character. Following a solemn introduction the first movement springs into life showing the cheery side of the Irish character. The second movement is a ballad with a simple, natural and peaceful melody that inspires a feeling of fullness.The final movement introduces a lively Irish dance in 6/8 time. This joyous piece is a must for your concert band repertoire.

An Irish Legend contains original melodies in an Irish style, written to evoke the sounds of the emerald isle offereland. The piece is in traditional ABA form, beginning with a lilting Irish jig, then a more lyrical and slow second theme. After returning to the jig, it ends with a climactic section where both themes are played together. It sounds much more difficult than it plays. The piece is exciting and will be well within the capabilities of students at this grade level.
