Suite Siciliana (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Cesarini, Franco
Franco Cesarini has written this piece for concert band as a tribute to the town of Bisacquino (Palermo, Italy) of which he is an honorary citizen. The Suite Siciliana, a 7-movement piece - Intrada, Pavana, Gavotta, Barcarola, Tambourin, Siciliana, Tarantella - is characterised by contrasting rhythms and tempo, and consists of these 7 dances. The musical form, typical of the Baroque period, refers to some traditional expressions of art from the land of Sicily: ranging from the rich architecture of the Sicilian Baroque to the colourful majolica ceramics and the characteristic puppets, the "pupi", which narrate a secular tradition. A full immersion into ancient traditions of this beautiful island! Duration: 16.30

Hypernikon (More Than Conquerors) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Roost, Jan
The Greek word hypernikon roughly translates as More Than Conquerors, the motto of Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts, the commissioner of this piece. The work is inspired by David Rox's very own name, the first two letters of his name, D and A, sets the first theme is in D major, with these notes being the tonic and dominant of the scale. After the stately intrada, the tempo accelerates and the festive feel of the march emerges. The trio melody serves as a beautiful contrast before finally ending with the opening theme in a grand tutti.Duration: 3.45

Psaltrada (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jan
The title of this piece gives a clue as to how it came about: Jan de Haan took the setting of psalm 149 from the Geneva Psalter of 1562 and created from this simple, beautiful melody a glorious, lively opening work for concert band. So it was that from a psalm and an intrada (prelude) a Psaltrada was born - for you to begin your next concert in splendid fashion.Duration: 1:45

Chorale and March (from Symphonic Suite) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Williams, Clifton - Wagner, Douglas E.
Originally published in 1957, with five diverse movements, American composer J. Clifton Williams' Symphonic Suite includes: "Intrada," "Chorale," "March," "Antique Dance," and "Jubilee." A brilliantly conceived study in motivic repetition, development, and permutation, Douglas Wagner has selected the contrasting "Chorale" and "March" movements in this arrangement designed for successful performance by younger players. Drawn from the original edition, the two movements are presented unabridged, with the composer's unique scoring colourations preserved whenever possible. A cherished setting for the young band repertoire.Duration: 5.00

Rhapsodic Celebration (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sheldon, Robert
This multi-faceted work includes three brief connected and musical tableau's that each present their own distinct mood and style. The opening Intrada explores 6/8 time using an uplifting fanfare and rhythmical motifs. The slower Serenade provides contrast that begins with an alto saxophone solo, then utilises the full ensemble to create warm, rich timbres in this gentle and lyrical movement. The closing Galop is as tuneful as it is technical, providing the ensemble with an energetic and fast-paced romp to conclude this delightful piece.Duration: 6.00

Symphonic Suite (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Williams, Clifton
A suite of five movements with different material. Each movement is associated through the use of one theme. The first, "Intrada," is fanfare-like, and the second, "Chorale," features a trumpet solo. "March," the third movement, is reminiscent of the opening material, followed by "Antique Dance," which has a modal melody. The final movement, "Jubilee," is clearly the most intense. The work is an Ostwald Award-Winning Composition of the American Bandmasters Association and is clearly a repertoire standard. Duration: 12.30

Partita (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Gregson, Edward
Partita' was originally composed for brass band in 1973. The work is in three movements, and uses material based on the 13th century plainsong 'Dies Irae". the opening Intrada is sombre. the second movement is a 'chorale and variations. the chorale melody follows the main outline of the plainsong. the five variations are varied in mood and intensity. the final March is much happier in mood and has a lyrical tune in the middle first heard on horns. However, references to the 'Dies Irae' are still apparent and the final bars of the work contain a quote from the opening movement.
