    Heartland - Larry R. Blocher

This simple, expressive setting was written for a performance at the World War II Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. It is symbolic of a generation of Americans who defended their country with honor and passion, expecting nothing in return. Very moving.

The Virtuous and the Brave - Mike Hannickel

Here is an uplifting cut-time concert march that grows relentlessly from the simplest of themes to a contrapuntal gem. A tribute to the Allied veterans of World War II, THE VIRTUOUS AND THE BRAVE is an excellent program choice. Bold and melodic, it's perfect for concert, festival or contest use, and in the U.S., if you perform a concert around Veteran's Day, Memorial Day, or the Fourth of July you've GOT to have it.

An American Anthem - John Gibson

Written as a response to the events of September 11, 2001, American Anthem utilizes the principal motives that are heard in The Star-Spangled Banner, which is to the composer the most patriotic song and the true American anthem. This piece also celebrates the life of the composer's father-in-law and mentor David Leon Adams, a great musician and World War II veteran, who died during the completion of this work.

Flying Fortress - Robert W. Smith

This stunning fanfare by veteran composer Robert W. Smith was inspired by the historic and legendary Boeing B-17 aircraft used by the United States Army Air Corps in World War II. Beginning with a powerful timpani statement, the brass section responds with a bold introductory theme. Strong melodic lines interacting with woodwind flourishes make this piece sound more mature and difficult than the grade level indicates. We highly recommend this majestic fanfare for any concert, festival or ceremonial performance!

Flights Of Passage - Kent Rausch

This work was inspired by interviews the composer had with six World War II veterans. All had fascinating stories, which they had told for the thousandth time or for some, for the first time. Those moving stories were the basis for writing Flights of Passage. The piece is programmatic in nature, with six segments depicting the various "passages" that all Americans experienced in some way, both overseas and here at home. The six segments are Innocence, One Nation, Conflict, The Telegram, Remembrance, and One Nation, Indivisible.

By Virtue of the Skies - John Prescott

The composers father, Jack Prescott, was born in 1922, and at the age of 17 became the youngest pilot in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was somewhat of a daredevil, flying under drawbridges and doing snap rolls down deserted beaches at an altitude of 50 feet. During World War II he joined the Army Air Corps and flew C-47 transport planes from India to China over the Himalayan mountains. He flew 83 missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross by President Harry Truman. The heroism of these flights in the face of severe adversity is depicted by the dignified thematic material of the opening. Somewhat dissonant fanfares appear at times, reminding us of the constant dangers that were ever present, before the work concludes in ultimate triumph.
