Odd Nordstoga is an award winning Norwegian artist who has been active since the 1990's, working in the popular-/folk music genre. I have listened to a lot of Odd Nordstogas music, in particular the Heim te mor-album. When preparing for Asky Brass Band's participation at Siddis Brass in 2008, I came across I byen Samarkand, another of Nordstogas tunes. This was from the Pilegrim album. I thought it had an exciting mix of expressions and included it in the band's repertoire for the Siddis Brass competiton. Pilegrim was initially a commision by the Bergen International Festival back in 2005, based on lyrics by author Ragnar Hovland and Odd Nordstoga's music. -Svein H. Giske -

I Wonder As I Wander
This setting of the hauntingly beautiful Appalachian folk song/carol was originally written for choir by Ruth Elaine Schram and published by Carl Fischer in 2007 (CM9001). It has now been scored for concert band and can be perfomed by band alone or with the Schram choral setting, giving you some great performance options. I Wonder As I Wander is a musically satisfying representation of this lovely Christmas carol.

The movie is a follow-up to the very popular TV-series "Jul i Blfjell" og "Jul p Mnetoppen""This Christmas Night" was performed by Anita Skorgan, a famous singer in Norway.Make sure that all phrasing is done together and watch balance between instrument groups, thin out instrumentation if needed.

Norge i rdt, hvitt og bltt ("Norway in Red, White and Blue") was commissioned by the Oslo Fagott Choir (yes, that is indeed a gay men's choir) for a concert with The Staff Band of the Armed Forces in 2015. I was given artistic licence to write a more modern and somewhat 'eclectic' arrangement for this originally Swedish melody written by Lars-Erik Larsson, which became something of a national liberation anthem when Nazi occupation ended in May 1945 - then with new lyrics by Finn B, Bias Bernhoft and Arild Feldborg.After the premiere in Oslo, and a music video with Oslo Fagott Choir and The Staff Band, broadcasted by Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) on Constitution Day during coronavirus lockdown in 2020, I was approached by many to write an instrumental version of the arrangement for concert band. Verdi's success with Ernani, as well as Nabucco and I lombardi alla prima crociata, can be ascribed to two distinct ideas: the melodic idea and the patriotic idea. The melodic idea is very important to move and touch the audience, while the patriotic idea is the source of enthusiasm and emotions. Approximately ten years elapse between two similar stories: the one of the outlaw Ernani and the one of Manrico, the troubadour. In the prelude to Act I, in only three minutes, Verdi has succeeded in skillfully concentrating the main elements of the entiredrama. One can clearly observe the themes of love, oath, and death.
