This work was commissioned by the Musikverein Prechtal e. V. (Germany) for its 100th anniversary in the year of 2021. The composition opens with a powerful rhythmic motif, which soon develops into the main theme of this brisk overture. The unwavering, joyful melodies and a positive atmosphere give the work a high-spirited energy. The strong pulse has the music firmly in its grasp and only quietens gradually in a pensive middle movement that seems to emanate from another world. This atmospheric passage can evoke dreamy thoughts and a variety of visions. But then the liveliness of the previous motifs returns, to take us back to the vivacious here and now, full of optimism and determination for the hundred years to come. On to a wonderful future!

£119.00Heritage - Shawn E. Okpebholo
Shawn Okpebholo's Heritage, in the Edition Peters Concert Band Series, evokes moods, events and sounds (including West African drumming and indigenous melodies) from an ethnomusicological research visit the composer undertook to Nigeria. One of the primary musical themes of the work is an adaptation of a song that comes from the Esan people, a small ethnic group in the southern part of Nigeria and the tribe to which the composer has deep historical and family ties.The Esan language is poetic in nature and, at various moments in the work, the musicians chant the text from an Esan song: Ekine leleyea do obhimen la doeki nalo (My investment in you is paid off. Because of your hard work, your future is bright).Heritage is a revised version of a work previously entitled This is Africa, which was commissioned by Professor Marcellus Brown and the Boise State University Symphonic Winds for the 2011 National CBDNA Convention and is dedicated to the memory of Dr Harry Begian.

Something that has only been talked about in history books is coming to pass: a pandemic! The invisible danger expands more and more, and we feel paralysed by fear and fright. The distance between us and our fellow human beings increases. At the same time, we start to better understand something crucial: we have time again! People help each other out. Neighbourly assistance and support within one's own family becomes more apparent. We stand by each other. Suddenly we have the time for things that we did not have before. Time for reflection... A new era commences. Finally, hope reappears. We leave our houses, but nothing is quite the same anymore. With renewed strength, people begin to perceive the future in a positive and optimistic way once again. 'Don't Start Now', by the British singer Dua Lipa, is the first single from her second studio album, Future Nostalgia. The accompanying music video was uploaded to her YouTube channel upon the single's release. In the song, the singer tells her ex-lover that she is now over him. She gave her first live performance of it on The Graham Norton Show, after that she sang it a number of times at various award shows, TV programmes and music festivals. This arrangement by Tom Stanford will make sure that this disco pop song will also find its way into the world of wind music.

£104.99Solemnitas - Jan Van der Roost
This short but solemn overture was written on the occasion of the 110th jubilee of Harmonie Hautcharage, Luxembourg. It is an homage to Jean-Paul Frisch and his son Grard (the present conductor), who each have been conducting the ensemble for many years. Under their leadership, the band has developed and improved remarkably. The very first musical theme, presented during the introduction of this little overture, is based on the letters hidden in the names Jean-Paul and Grard Frisch (in which h is considered b - as it is in German), thus aiming the spotlight on both key figures in the history of Harmonie Hautcharage. After the rather stately intro, the allegro is more joyful and lighthearted, thus depicting the optimism of the many young players of the band. The end is exciting and energetic: it radiates positivity and belief in the future.

Lux Futura (Light of the Future) was commissioned by the Royal Wind Orchestra Delft and is inspired by the letters 'D-E-L-F-T' using the letter notation system by Bla Bartk. In this 'Delft' cell, there is referral to the 'Trinitas', the bourdon bell of the Old Church in Delft, that only tolls during a funeral of a member of the Dutch Royal Family. The Delft melody switches to the 'Agneta March', which is a reference to the history of the Royal Wind Orchestra Delft. Further on the love theme, played by the bass instruments represents the love of the inhabitants for their city throughout space and time. In the middle movement, the beauty of the city is depicted by the coranglais (English horn) solo, as an ode to the lovely city of Delft. When performed, one can choose to use sound city samples recorded in Delft to create a truly magnificent spectacle.
