Stai si, defenda! (Stand Up and Defend) - Score only
Stai si, defenda romontsch, tiu vegl lungatg (Stand up, defend your old Romansh language): This composition was named after a quotation from a poem by famous Romansh poet Giachen Casper Muoth. The arrangement deals with various well known songs for male choir such as A Trun sut igl ischi (In Trun under the malpe tree), Si sededesta Rezia (Wake up, land of Raetia), Il pur suveran (The independent farmer) or Il paun palus (The rosted bread). An atmospheric beginning over a pedal point uses quotations from these songs and leads eventually into a dark but warmly orchestrated section on Nossa viarva (Our language) by H. Erni. The piece ends, once more quoting A Trun sut igl ischi by J. Heim, a dedication to struggle for freedom and independence.

Panic Button (CB) - Paul Saggers
Panic Button was commissioned by Bert Van Thienen especially for 2022 World Music Contest in Kerkrade (NL). The composer was given complete freedom musically, however, he was given two conditions. First, it had to be an atypical work, a composition that puts the orchestra in a different perspective than the traditional repertoire and be suitable for both concert and competition stages. Second, it had to give the musicians the opportunity to go completely wild for a while. On the one hand, to shake off any stress and, on the other, to give them energy for the rest of the program. Enjoy!

£87.95Phoenix Fanfare & Journey Into Light (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Holmes, Chris
A Phoenix Fanfare opens with bold, rhythmic motifs built around the interval of a perfect fourth, a musical gesture symbolising strength and renewal. These rhythmic ideas are energetically passed around the wind band, creating a sense of movement and vitality. As the piece progresses, textures build and interplay intensifies, culminating in a striking moment where glissando horns soar above the ensemble--this feature should be given due prominence, as it evokes the mythical rise of the phoenix and adds a dramatic flourish to the conclusion. In contrast, Journey into Light captures the feeling of a 'return to normality' following the lifting of COVID restrictions. The music begins with a short passage in a reflective minor key, representing the uncertainty and isolation of lockdown. Gradually, optimism emerges as the harmony brightens and the tempo increases. The arrival of the presto section marks a turning point--joyful, exuberant, and full of life. From here, the music remains uplifting, celebrating the renewed freedom to rehearse, perform, and connect through music. This piece would make an ideal concert opener or start to a second half of a concert.Duration: 3.30

£36.95Sing Lullaby (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob
Sing Lullaby, also known as The Infant King, is an arrangement of a Basque Carol. The words were translated into English by Sabine Baring-Gould (1834-1924) an Anglican priest and folk song collector. The melody was harmonized by the English organist and music editor Edgar Pettman (1866-1943) who included it with other Basque carols (also rendered by Sabine Baring-Gould) in The University Carol Book in 1922. I use a little of Pettman's harmony but also take a different look. I also set it in 3/4 time rather than Pettman's 6/8 (starting with an anacrusis) which allowed me more freedom of expression and a chance to use a few hemiolas in poignant moments. It is a beautiful, tender carol as befits a lullaby though not without a few suspensions which allude to the future trials of the Infant King described in Baring-Gould's words.- Rob WiffinDuration: 4.15

£137.99The Baltic Way (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jan
In 1989, the demonstration named the Baltic Way, also known as the Baltic Chain, was held in the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania by its citizens in a call for independence from the Soviet Union. On 23rd August 1989, some two million participants formed a human chain, hand-in-hand all the way from the Estonian capital of Tallinn its Latvian counterpart, Riga, through to the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius - six hundred kilometres long. It became the longest human chain ever created and turned out to be the final push needed for much sought-after independence. This historic event became the source of inspiration for this composition. The introduction of the first movement, 'Struggle for Independence', is based on a nocturne for piano by the renowned Lithuanian composer and painter Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis (1875-1911), thematic material from which has been incorporated throughout the whole composition. The melancholic beginning is followed by a powerful theme which reflects the resolve of the Baltic people. The sudden aggressive, dissonant chords and a dominant and, in rhythmic terms, contrary bass drum announce that the resistance is not going smoothly. Just for a moment, we hear the anthem of the Soviet Union in the lower brass, but this is relentlessly pushed to the background by the rest of the band playing the Lithuanian national anthem, 'Tautiska giesm?' (Lithuania, our homeland). The second movement, 'Decades of Suffering', echoes life under the Soviet Union's thumb. In the pursuit of independence, a peaceful protest is planned in which a human chain is formed across the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. This 'Chain of Freedom' is depicted in the final movement of the work. Duration: 10.30

£60.99A Caribbean Sailing Trip (Flexible Ensemble - Score and Parts) - Schaars, Peter Kleine
With this composition in a rumba style, Peter Kleine Schaars invites us to enjoy a relaxed sailing trip in the waters of the Caribbean. The feeling of freedom on the boat is mirrored by an extensive melody surrounded by a palette of colourful harmonies the shades of the water while the clever percussion sets the course of the ship. Who wouldn't dream of such an adventure? Although the musical themes and accompaniments have been constructed from combinations of rhythmic cells that occur less often, the composition sounds very natural and flowing. Assuming the rhythmic cells 1 to 8 are part of the basic skills of your band, in this composition, the accent rather lies on cells 9 to 13. The instrumentation is created in such a way that these new cells occur in all parts, so that all musicians of the band become familiar with this rhythmic development.Duration: 2.30

£57.50Ascent (Prerecorded Soundscape with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Shapiro, Alex
Ascent reflects the effort to get off the ground, literally or figuratively. It's a micro-overture that begins with the promise of upward transcendence, yet soon flies off into rogue disorganization. A raucous flock of notes finally converges into a united upward-headed murmuration, but the freedom of soaring through the sky brings an uneasy mystery before settling into the tranquil air of anticipation.
