Fiori - Thomas Doss
Fiori finds its genesis in a walk through an impressionistic garden. It expresses not only the atmosphere and mood but also tiny and grotesque scenes between the insects. The flute, as a solo instrument, plays a perfect role in this marvellous micro world. It was a challenge for the composer to integrate the sound of the flute through the "fragrance of flowers and exotic plants that fills the air".

Wild Rose Jamboree (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Buckley, Robert
Wild Rose Jamboree conjures up the pioneer spirit and the big-sky panorama of Alberta, Canada's heartland. The cinematic approach to the music captures the essence of life in wild rose country - famous for its rodeos, warm-hearted people, majestic mountains and wide-open spaces. With a high-spirited hoedown and a rich, reverent theme that features a trumpet solo and a flute/clarinet duet, this composition could be a dynamic show opener or festival piece. Wild Rose Jamboree can be effectively performed by a mixed group (junior band and senior band, for example), the upper parts being at a medium level and the lower parts (flute 2, clarinet 3, alto saxophone 2, trumpet 3, horn 2 and trombone 2) at an easier level.Duration: 5:00

Forgotten Dreams - Leroy Anderson
FORGOTTEN DREAMS was completed on May 28, 1954. The first performance was a few days later on June 2nd during a recording session for Delta Records in New York, at which time Leroy Anderson performed the piano solo himself. Although the main theme of FORGOTTEN DREAMS was intended to be played on the piano (and with simplicity), the composer_x001A_s band edition of the piece allowed for a solo flute to substitute (Play only in absence of Piano). It is also suggested the melody might be beautifully rendered on vibraphone due to the sustaining quality of that instrument. In any event, this charmingly romantic miniature will delight audiences whenever it is performed. This edition includes a full score.

Concerto for Wind Ensemble - Karel Husa
Commissioned by the Michigan State University Alumni Band, this three movement work by Karel Husa was the winner of the first Louis Sudler International Wind Band Composition Competition in 1983. A note from thecomposer: 'Divided into three movements, this work is a display of virtuoso passages given to solo instruments as well as to the groups of the ensemble. In the Fanfare of the first movement, the Brass section concertises in groupsof four Brass quintets (2 Trumpets, Horn, Trombone and Tuba or Baritone), spread from left to right in back. The Saxophones (SATB) are placed in front of the Brass quintets, and the Woodwinds occupy the front of the stage, withPercussion on the left and right side. These groups, like the Brass quintets, play in the concertante style, particularly in the first and last movements. 'At the same time, each movement contains individual solo passages(for example, Timpani and Flute in Movement I - Drum Ceremony and English Horn and other low Woodwinds in Movement II - Elegy). The composition of this piece was prompted by the excellence of Wind and Percussion players today, andby the incredible growth of Wind ensembles, orchestras, and bands in the last 25 years. It is intended for their enjoyment.'

Ancient Apparitions - John Prescott
Travel back to the time of the oldest human civilizations, whose very existence seem to us today as ghosts of a long-dead past. A solo flute and solo trumpet provide musical invitations for listeners to transport themselves to these ancient times while the band answers with antiphonal response. This work continues to gain momentum as ghostly apparitions from ancient times swirl in and out of sight like spinning wisps of mist. The specters - and the music - gain strength and substance as they approach the unyielding vortex of an exciting conclusion.

Symphony No. 9, Op. 160 - James Barnes
Premiered on September 21, 2018 in Lawrence, Kansas by the University of Kansas Wind Ensemble (Dr. Paul Popiel, conducting), James Barnes' Ninth Symphony was composed between January and late June of that same year. This large work was commissioned by a consortium of twenty-one college bands, community bands, professional bands and individuals to help mark the 70th birthday of the composer (b. 1949). It is an expansive forty-minute work in four movements, of which the composer writes, This is my last symphony... this work represents a compendium of all that I have learned during the fifty years of composing and scoring for this wonderful new medium: the modern wind band. The first movement, subtitled Elegy, is based around G minor. It is the longest movement of the symphony. Tragic and despondent in character, it is cast in sonata-allegro form. The second movement is entitled Scherzo. Barnes claims that I have always wanted to write a waltz, and that is how this movement is cast, in a modified rondo form in D minor. In contrast to the mood of the first movement, the scherzo is a delightful posy of expansive melody, splashy color, humor and rhythm. The third movement, which is in a modified tertiary form, is entitled Night Music. In contrast to the scherzo, this movement begins with a mysterious incantation, first displayed by solo Alto flute. The music becomes even darker and more mysterious, while overall the movement effectively expresses an otherworldly mood, ending with a solo soprano offstage which suddenly emerges, eerily singing a modified version of the opening incantation. Cast in sonata-allegro form, the fourth movement is most definitely a rousing Finale, beginning with a brilliant fanfare and undergoing several mood transformations before emerging into the final coda, ending the symphony with an energetic splash of color.

Little Concerto - André Waignein
Little Concerto is a most useful solo item due to the fact that thekey and the range of the solo part mean it can be performed byseveral different instruments, from flute to baritone. Little Concertoconsists of three movements: an Allegro written in classicalstyle, which alternates between tutti and soli passages; a secondmovement, sweet and calm, to fully display the richness of the soloinstrument's sound colours and finally an Allegro giocoso. It is afairly simple piece and is therefore particularly suitable for youngor inexperienced soloists who want to display their artistic skills.
