The associated artists Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II played a prominent role in the history of the American musical. Their collaboration started in 1943 and resulted immediately in the big hit, 'Oklahoma'. A series of extremely successful musicals followed, such as 'South Pacific', 'The King and I' and 'The Sound of Music'. With his usual skill and talent, Peter Kleine Schaars made this fine wind band arrangement of the famous song 'It might as well be spring' from the film 'State Fair' (1962), a musical comedy by Jos Ferrer starring Pat Boone.

Hans-Joachim Rhinow, born in Berlin on 18 November 1921, studied at the Conservatory of Music (Musikhochschule) of his native town. From 1958 onwards he was active as composer and arranger for radio, television and film productions. He composed several works for wind band, among which the popular folksong medleys 'Russische Impressionen' and 'Fiesta Mexicana' were very successful, and signed some works with the pseudonym Frank Harvest. Here is a new work 'Super Nova' which MOLENAAR EDITION is proud to present. Once more, Rhinow's orchestration talent is clearly demonstrated in this easy listening piece.

A long time ago... in a small village near the Dutch city of Delft two friends had a rather hazardous idea: they wanted to write a sequel to the legendary 'Star Wars' cycle. The idea was realized and landed on the desk of the (film) director. However, the latter had already developed his own ideas and thanked them for the trouble.Today, more than twenty years later, the former musical sketches have been assembled in an accessible suite that will sound familiar to many listeners. This short, descriptive work was composed to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the dutch wind ensemble 'Vakantieorkest Ad Hoc', on their tour to the south of France. The work is a reference to the accommodation where the orchestra has often stayed. 'Wild Horses' is an rip-roaring composition, which brings forth images of the sometimes harsh and exciting world of the Wild West. This work is also a tribute to one of the most influential film score composers of all time: Ennio Morricone. The trampling of the wild stallions, the expansive wasteland and the exquistie beauty of the prairie at sunset form the main inspiration sources for this spectacular work.

Cy Coleman was born in New-York in 1929. As a child prodigy he gave piano recitals at the age of six. Cy wanted to become a concert pianist, but finally got famous as composer, entertainer and producer. He became a television star and composed a lot of music for film and television and also some popular musicals. He was particularly successful at Broadway with 'Barnum', 'Sweet Charity' and 'Wild Cat' (1960). The popular march 'Hey look me over' is extracted from the musical Wild Cat.

Sverre Bergh (1915-1980) was a central character in the music scene in Bergen, both as a musical leader at "Den Nationale Scene" (theatre) and as a director for the "Festspillene" music festival. He was an arranger and pianist for the NorwegianBroadcasting Company (NRK), and wrote stage- and film scores as well as piano pieces. "Country-Folk in Town" is one movement from "Village Sketches". This small overture was written for the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.

The "Rkczi March" (Hungarian March) was the unofficial state anthem of Hungary before Ferenc Klcsey wrote the Himnusz which is today the official national anthem of Hungary. The first version of this march-song was probably created around 1730 by one or more anonymous composers, although tradition says that it was the favorite march of Francis Rkczi II. That early version called back Francis Rkczi II to save his people. It was very popular in the 18th century but in the 19th century the more refined Rkczi March became prevalent. Hector Berlioz included the music in his composition "La Damnation de Faust" in 1846, and Franz Liszt wrote a number of arrangements, includinghis Hungarian Rhapsody No. 15, based on the theme. The march gave its name to a 1933 Austrian-Hungarian feature film - Rakoczy-Marsch This arrangement is based on Berlioz instrumentation and phrasing from his Hungarian March, but in the form of the 19th century Rkczi March
