The New Corn Palace is a famous attraction in Mitchell, SD. Originally built to house the annual community harvest festival, the new ornate building opened in 1921 and became a premier venue for area symphonies and concert bands. Fort Dodge (IA) Band rang in the inaugural celebration, under the direction of Karl King, who composed this work for the occasion.In keeping with King's circus march tradition, a bold D minor introduction and first strain leads to a contrasting F major second strain, lyrical trio, and minor key break strain. This new edition condenses the five original trumpet parts into three parts, and re-scores the saxophones to meet modern standards, with additional percussion editing.

Named for the beautiful Catawba River, this piece begins with a brilliant fanfare, revealing the principle motive upon which the entire composition is based. Shifting tonalities and colorful scoring are the hallmark of the opening section. This is followed by an expressive con moto section that provides the piece with dramatic contrast. Once the opening theme returns, Catawba Crossing develops into a rousing march in 6/8 time, followed by a return to the opening material, bringing the piece to an exciting conclusion. £75.00The New Spirit of '76 (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - McCall Noblitt, Katheryn - Noble, Paul
Though never before published, The New Spirit of '76 march is perhaps Katheryn McCall Noblitt's best known piece, and was among her favorites. Originally composed in 1947 as a piano solo, in 1975, in anticipation of our nation's Bicentennial celebration, she composed a second-piano part for two additional players, wrote patriotic words in both two-part and four-part harmony. The melodies are so well-crafted that they seem very familiar. This arrangement includes short quotations from other Bicentennial favorites - The Star-Spangled Banner, Battle Hymn of the Republic, Dixie, and Yankee Doodle. Dr. Noble directed its premiere performance in 1976 during a music festival, followed by performances with the 500-member Virginia Bicentennial Band and Marching Chorus in Philadelphia, Washington, Alexandria and other cities.
