    Anniversary Overture - Malcolm Arnold

Anniversary Overture was commissioned in 1968 as a twenty-first birthday piece for Hong Kong Philharmonic Society, and is a four-minute firework display for orchestra. Within the framework of a two-four Allegro giubiloso,Arnold alternates two major themes, one breezy, the other tender, developing them extensively and landing resoundingly in F major. Concertino for Xylophone - Jan Bosveld

This composition was commissioned by "Koningin Wilhelmina Wamel" on the occasion of its one hundred year anniversary. The piece is both melodically and harmonically based on four notes (C - Dflat - F - G). The structure is divided into four parts: slow - fast - slow - fast.

    Sdwind Overture - Ferrer Ferran

The idea for Sdwind Overture arose during dinner with the conductor Werner Buchmann and a few members of his band. Ferrer Ferran accepted the commission to write the work and asked Mr. Buchmann jokingly to sing him a motif offive notes that would serve as the leitmotif of the composition. Starting from these five notes (Ab, B, D#, E, F), the composer has created Sdwind Overture - the result is a fantastic musical achievement that shows a great senseof imagination. Dur: 7:00

    Early One Morning

Although the roots of this British folksong date back to the 18th century, the first publication of the melody was in the late 1850's in the collection "National English Airs". Early One Morning is the story of a young woman misused by her lover, as overheard by the singer. In the mid-1930's the tune was adapted as a military slow march called "The Globe and Laurel" for the Royal Marines band. This arrangement focuses on the lyricism of the original with just a hint of its later military associations. Only the 1st clarinets cross the break. 1st trumpet's highest note is F.
