£90.30Moving Spirits - Fred Vogels
At the commemoration ceremonies of the '60th anniversary of the Liberation' several stories about the concentration camps were brought up once more. Most poignant was the improvised act by an ex prisoner of the Auschwitz camp, scantily dressed in the frosty weather, calling for attention for the terrible injustice done to those people. These stories reminded the composer of the stories told by members of his family that had been locked up in those camps. 'Moving Spirits' is dedicated to those who have been imprisoned and those who have died in these concentration camps. The title refers to the fact that this terrible experience marked those people for life. The spiritual quiet and peace will perhaps never come back because one is still wondering 'why?'

In this fantasy, the band develops itself starting from a flute cadenza and an oboe solo and then develops through a slow blues in the woodwinds, a big band passage and a tango into a sparkling swing band. The score contains a solo passage for a Dixieland band noted in all parts. Some obbligato improvisations help the splendid orchestration to make a thrilling experience of this piece.

£140.80Back to Normandy - Fred Vogels
Back to Normandy is a composition for concert band on the occasion of D-Day. On D-Day (June 6, 1944) the liberation of Western Europe started at the beach of Normandy. A long campaign through Europe followed before the liberation was complete. Back to Normandy describes the first hours of the landing with the shelling of the German positions as a (musical) peak. As an introduction you will see and hear de preperations for the biggest campaign ever. Very special and unique is the fact that the music of Back to Normandy can be performed synchronously with a movie with original footage, specially made for this composition. This will without a doubt be an extra experience for the audience. So far performances like this were exclusively for professional orchestras (like George Fenton, Earth). This piece is specially suitable for concert bands that want to offer their audience something special and also want to honour the liberators. The movie to practise for the concert is on Youtube (meassures and metronome are visible/audiblematen). On the Back to Normandy forum you can get more information or have an exchange of views about this project or D-Day in general. You can download the complete movie here (1, 7 GB). Interaction with the composer is certainly appreciated.

Walkabout - A Kaleidoscopic Journey for Band - John Brakstad
The concept of Walkabout comes originally from the Australian aborigines. A Walkabout is a journey where the goal is of less importance (even though you always end up where you started). It is the journey itself, and what you experience on the way, that is important. That could mean different moods, challenges, experiences in nature, various kinds of people, humour, joy, drama etc. The composition Walkabout consists of a several miniatures and episodes which are woven together. Someof the working titles for the miniatures have been: Call of the Unknown, Walk, Nightfall, At the Lake, Panorama, The Happy Man and The Sad Man, The Clown, The Valiant, Struggle and Relief, and Return to Home. The recurrent theme, which isheard at the beginning of the piece, symbolises the journey and the call of the unknown. Kaleidoscopic means Changing colours and patterns.
