£149.40Minnen frn Holmen - Jerker Johansson
The first theme played by the solo clarinet was written by Jerker Johansson the summer 1997, when he was composing in Swedish folk music style for an intended radio programme in which his father should participate reading poems in local dialect. Unfortunately, the project was discontinued. In the spring 2015 Mr. Johansson however started to work on the theme again, this time adding a song theme of broader character. Holmen is the name of the homestead where Mr. Johansson's father Arne grew up. It is beautifully located in the parish of Skrv, situated east of Skara, one of the oldest towns in Sweden. At Holmen, the composer spent his childhood summers and his recollections are filledwith many bright moments and happy memories. The piece was premiered May 22, 2015 by the Gteborg Wind Orchestra conducted by the composer.

Composed by the talented arranger for the U.S. Air Force Band in Washington, D.C., this work is a musical tribute to the serenity and all encompassing sense of peace that pervades the historic grounds of George Washingtons home, Mt. Vernon, recalling the panoramic view from the east side of the mansion. A fanfare section hails the arrival of General Washington, eventually giving way to a restatement of the lyric section and concluding with a serene sunset.

When Men and Mountains Meet - Scott Watson
Commissioned by the East Stroudsburg Area School District, this work displays the effort and determination it must have taken to establish this community in the Pocono mountains with wall upon wall of rock to be blasted and great masses of earth to be moved. It opens with a broad, somewhat dissonant statement representing the settlers first intimidating encounter with the mountain, followed by a faster, insistent theme as the area is settled and developed. An impressive work for young bands that makes us aware that truly great things are done "when men and mountains meet."

Franois Glorieux was born in Belgium in 1932, and acclaimed throughout Europe, the USA, Latin America, Canada, Japan, China, the Middle East and Africa. He is one of the most widely accomplished and versatile musicians traveling the international circuit today: pianist composer conductor, commentator, entertainer, honorary professor of chamber music at the Royal Music Conservatory of Ghent and guest professor at Yale University (USA). His particular art was the rare one of improvisation presented in five languages. The second half of the 18th century, for the people of East Central Europe, was the time of the awakening of national consciousness. The leading force in the Hungarian enlightenment, the lesser nobility, also regarded as important the national character of the country's culture. A valuable kind of national music was the Hungarian dance music that flourished in the 18th century. The greater part of the repertoire naturally perpetuates the 'Hungarian-style' pieces from the previous centuries (appearing in foreign collections too described as hungaricus, ungaresca, saltus hungaricus or Ungarischer Tanz), but beside these we can encounter contemporary European dances and entertaining instrumental pieces in almost every style. The majority of the sources are collections compiled by non-professional musicians and intendedfor private music-making. In this work the composer uses melodies from the 18th-century Linus dance collection, in trioform, with harmonies and bass appropriate to that period. The musical fabric is rich in counterparts, the sound is mademore colourful with many kinds of percussion instruments. The register and rhythmic simplicity of the parts make thepieces easily playable even by music school pupils.
