Summer Song (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob
A gentle song in ABA form catching the spirit of a relaxed summer's day. Early in July 2024 the composer was asked to write a flashy trombone duet of 4 minutes' duration for a summer school. The duet starts with a slower section before moving on to the fireworks. This emerged into the band version of Summer Song - gentle, warm, lyrical and technically undemanding.Duration: 3.30

TOCCATA IN BLUE (Programme Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Stubbs, Duncan
Toccata in Blue was originally written as a duet for 2 pianos, where the incessant movement and improvisatory element seemed particularly well suited. Built around some of the composers favourite blues chords, the piece was an ideal candidate for reworking for wind band. While the overall framework of the piece remains largely similar to the piano duet, the material has been thoroughly re-worked to suit the larger forces and particularly the invaluable addition of percussion.

Double Concerto - Vivaldi, Antonio
This famous Allegro movement from a Vivaldi concerto for two trumpets is presented here in an arrangement loaded with flexibility as to choice of soloists and even the accompanying ensemble. May be performed as a solo or as a duet, and it includes solo/duet parts for Bb instruments: Trumpets or Clarinets; C Instruments: Flutes, Oboes, or Violins; Eb Instruments: Alto Saxophones; F Instruments: Horns; and Bass Clef instruments: Bassoons or Trombones. The accompaniment is cleverly scored so that it is playable by a full, traditional concert band; or by a "chamber wind ensemble" of woodwinds, horns, and timpani (ideal for accompanying upper woodwind soloists.) A great way to feature outstanding soloists from your band!

Fandango for Mallet Percussion and Band
A delightful composition which features either a mallet percussion solo or duet with band accompaniment. The lively Latin melodies work well on either marimba or xylophone and it's not too difficult! Duet parts can easily be doubled to include all of those mallet players you have left over from marching season. Full of audience appeal, it's a great change of pace piece for any concert! Our Last Summer - Benny Andersson
An exciting arrangement where almost all players have a bit of the melody line. There are many opportunities to give individual musicians soloistic challenges. Any bandmember should find something interesting in this piece. It will be possible to add vocals to the arrangement. A lovely melody with great expressions. Our Last Summer" is a song by the Swedish pop group ABBA from their seventh studio album, "Super Trouper," released in 1980. The song is indeed featured in the musical "Mamma Mia!", a little bit shortened and with small changes in the lyrics. The musical premiered in London's West End in 1999 and is a duet performed by the characters Harry Bright and Donna Sheridan, reflecting on their past romance during a summer spent in Paris. The song is primarily sung by Bjrn Ulvaeus, with backing vocals provided by Agnetha Fltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, the female members of ABBA. Their harmonies contribute to the song's nostalgic and wistful atmosphere. The lyrics vividly describe the memories of the summer spent together, including scenes of walking along the Seine River in Paris and listening to French songs. The song also touches on the passage of time and the realization that the summer romance has ended. While not released as an official single in most countries, "Our Last Summer" still received considerable airplay and became a fan favorite. It charted in some European countries and has remained popular among ABBA fans over the years.

Maasai Masala - Craig Farr
"Maasai Masala" is a virtuoso band piece based on "Ol Doinyo Lengai", a duet for vibraphone and marimba. The music draws inspiration from the rhythms and tonalities from both African and Indian music and has chamber music qualities in the slower middle section. The piece has optional extra percussion parts in prioritised order in case enough percussionists are available or in occasion of including young aspiring talents.Ol Doinyo Lengai is the name of an active volcano in Tanzania, the name meaning The Mountain of God. The piece depicts the volcano in its physical form and also describes the underlying tension in the expectation og future eruptions. Requiem Aeternam - Giacomo Puccini
Giacomo Puccini was commissioned to write a second opera after the resounding success of his first, Le Villi. However, the original four-act, grand opera Edgar, to a libretto by Ferdinando Fontana, received a rather lukewarm reception at its premire in La Scala in Milan in 1889 - initially, the work was only performed three times. Of all the planned performances in the subsequent two years, only one took place, in Lucca, Puccini's birthplace. There, the work was well received. Nevertheless, the composer decided to make drastic changes to Edgar the most radical being the reduction of the opera to three acts, as well as altering a few arias, charactersand instrumental parts. In its revised form, the work was even less popular than before. The discarded fourth act later provided material for Tosca (the duet Amoro sol' per te), but Puccini never felt the need to defend Edgar - as he did other less fortunate operas, such as La Rondine and Suor Angelica. On a piano excerpt for his female friend Sybil Seligman he even corrupted the title to 'E Dio ti GuARda da quest' opera' (may God preserve you from this opera). This did not prevent Arturo Toscanini performing the Requiem from the third act at Puccini's funeral in Milan Cathedral on 3 December 1924. The Requiem in the third act is being played when the long funeral procession carries the alleged body of Edgar - the confusedyoung man hesitating between the love of the virtuous Fidelia and the exotic Tigrana. The mass hails Edgar as a hero, but a monk claims that he has betrayed his country for a few gold pieces. When the soldiers try to desecrate the body, they discover that the armor contains none. The monk reveals himself as Edgar. He wants to leave with his faithful Fidelia, but the vengeful Tigrana stabs him and kills Fidelia. Edgar grieves over the lifeless body of his beloved, while Tigrana is arrested and the people submerge into prayer.

From the "patrol" styled beginning to the more traditional march trio and exciting "break" strain, this stately march is a splendid choice for middle school and jr. high bands. Features a very soft snare drum solo with flute duet then builds in volume and intensity all the way to the end. All sections have interesting parts and it's perfect for concert or contest performances. Very Highly Recommended!!
