The Red Kite (Euphonium Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob

At one time the Red Kite was close to national extinction in the UK but now it is possible to admire this distinctive bird of prey with its red colouring and forked tail. I love watching it soaring so gracefully through the sky. I attempted to catch that feeling in this solo composed for Martin Smith. In writing it I had in mind making the euphonium glide solitary and effortlessly, occasionally swooping down then reclaiming its high altitude. To create the desired atmosphere, I avoided too many root position chords and enhanced the feeling of floating by adding notes to a lot of the harmony, giving it subtle colour. The harmonic rhythm is slow but the movement switches in the way that the Red Kite can make slight changes of direction by minor adjustments of its tail. On top of this accompaniment the soloist is left to sing with a sense of grace and freedom.- Rob WiffinDuration: 3.45

March of the Nobles - Douglas Court

With stately majesty your band transports the audience back to medieval days. The music fires the imagination, which is a real asset when directing young bands.Careful doubling of important parts makes sure MARCH OF THE NOBLES will be accessible to bands with sketchy instrumentation as well as complete ensembles. And, there are enough accidentals to keep the musicians' skills moving forward, but not so many that rehearsals will bog down.Whether you use it for concert or festival, you are sure to succeed with this great new composition by Douglas Court.Magnificent young band music!

The First Nowell (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Noble & Willcocks

The First Nowell is one of the oldest Christmas folk songs going back to at least the 1600's. We cannot be sure who wrote it, but both France and England claim it as part of their heritage. The spelling of the word Noel would indicate it to be French, however, England claims the original spelling was the English version Nowell. The singing of The First Nowell and the lighting of the yule log became tradition among the peasants in England and was passed down from generation to generation. It was not until 1833 that it was published and soon after was sung in Church services. This arrangement is one of the Series of Band Arrangements compatible with David Willcocks Carols for Choirs Book 1 (#38).

O All Ye Works of the Lord (from The Gift of Life) (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Rutter, John - Noble, Paul

The Gift of Life was written early in 2015 as a commission to honour a retiring Minister of Music at a church in Dallas, Texas. In planning this piece, John Rutter has stated: In 1985 I had written a Requiem - which, like any Requiem, inevitably reflects on death - why not write the opposite, a work celebrating life? Unlike a Requiem, where a set form of words is laid down in Catholic liturgy, no framework exists for a celebration of life, and I had to choose (and in three cases, write) texts which were appropriate to a theme rarely expressed in music since Haydn's wondrous oratorio The Creation in 1798. The six movements reflect different facets of the miracles of creation and of life. This arrangement is written for combined Concert Band and Chorus, but may be performed by Concert Band alone.
