Tribute to Dixie (Dixie Ensemble with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Tinner, Gilbert
This scintillating work was written as a tribute to the jazz musicians of the New Orleans, Dixieland and Chicago styles of the 20s and 30s. It consists of an opening swing section in true Dixieland style, followed by a sleazy blues section. Ideally the band should be divided so there is a separate Dixieland band consisting of trumpet, clarinet, alto or tenor saxophone, trombone, banjo (optional) and tuba or double bass. Although the Dixieland band are mostly accompanied by the remainder of the concert band the accompanying players also get the chance to shine as every now and again they take over the musical themes.Duration: 6.15

Alexander's Ragtime Band - Irving Berlin
One of Irving Berlin's most popular songs is given the big band treatment by Jerry Nowak. It starts out with an up tempo swing, dense with harmony, and leads to a jazz ballad in the middle of the piece. This is then followed by a swing roll-off and a catchy Dixieland treatment of the tune by a brass quintet. It finishes up with the full band swingin' at the end. Great for pops concerts and for community bands.

Canal Street Commotion - Mike Carubia
This chart features the sound of a New Orleans funeral marching band historically known as the "Second Line" which follows behind the family and casket. It's a time for celebration coming after the initial mourning period. Lots of fun to play in the style of a funky, marching Dixieland band. The harmonic form is the Blues and there is room made for soloing both inside the ensemble and for featured soloists. Includes an optional flute part.
