De Europese 'familie' is in 50 jaar tijd gegroeid van 6 tot 27 landen, ieder met hun eigen cultuur, taal en tradities. Vrijheid, democratie, gelijkheid, de rechtsstaat en respect voor de mensenrechten zijn de gemeenschappelijke waarden die worden nagestreefd. Europese Hymne: In 1972 koos de Raad van Europa het thema van 'Ode aan de vreugde' van Ludwig van Beethoven (uit de Negende Symphonie) als het Europese Volkslied. De tekst van het lied, 'Ode aan de vreugde' (An die Freude. Ode to Joy) is van de hand van Friedrich Schiller. Net alsSchiller vond Beethoven dat alle mensen gelijk waren (broeders). Ter gelegenheid van deze bijzondere verjaardag componeerde Dagmar Kildevann de vrolijke mars J'eu'ful. De titel is een woordspeling op de tekst van het Europese volkslied. Kildevann gebruikt als inleiding op het volkslied het bekende motief uit Beethoven's Vijfde Symphonie.

The 'Admiral Spirit' is the pride of the Navy. The ship is at sea, there is no wind, the sun is shining. The crew are busy piloting the ship into port in prime condition. The admiral himself will inspect the vessel. The first movement (Allegro Con Spirito) gives musical expression to the majestic ship and its toiling crew. In the second movement (Andante), the ship sails into port. It has been polished and technically everything is in order. The admiral will be proud when he inspects the ship. Third movement (Allegro Molto): the captain and his crew are nervous (modulations) while working at the 'finishing touch'. The Navy Band is ready to receive the admiral !. Hemay be proud of his flagship. De bemanning van het marineschip Admiral Spirit is druk bezig om het schip in optimale conditie de haven binnen te loodsen, de admiraal gaat namelijk het schip zelf inspecteren. In het eerste deel (Allegro con spirito) horen we een verklanking van het majestueuze schip en de zwoegende bemanning. Hoe beeldend zijn de emmertjes water welke overboord gaan (trombones). In het tweede deel (Andante) vaart het schip de haven binnen. Het schip is gepoetst en technisch is alles in orde. Derde deel (Allegro molto): De kapitein en zijn bemanning zijn nerveus (modulaties) en er wordt aan de finishing touch gewerkt. De Navy Band staat klaar om de admiraal te ontvangen! De admiraal kan trots zijn op het vlaggenschip. Een schitterend speelwerk voor de lagere afdelingen! Dit werk is opgenomen in het Klein repertorium, harmonie - 5e divisie

In Greek mythology, Boreas is the God of the North Wind. When thinking of the north wind we particularly think of the bleak wind coming from the freezing cold north, but in Homers' work we see a more varied picture. As shown in the following two stories, Boreas often does play the role of a storm wind that blows forth heavy dark clouds while whipping up the dark waves of the tempestuous sea to mountainous heights. When the stake of the fallen Patroclos refuses to burn, Achilles begs for some wind. When Iris, the swift messenger of the Gods, asks the winds for assistance, they raise themselves up with tremendous roaring and rush to Troy. Upon theirarrival they blow the divine fire of Patroclos' stake far up into the sky. When Troy was destroyed, the Greeks returned home. After many wanderings, Odysseus, however, ends up with the beautiful nymph, Calypso, who keeps him as a prisoner. As ordered by Zeus, Calypso frees him and sends him off on a handmade wooden raft. At sea, Odysseus is threatened by the aggressive sea god, Poseidon, who stirs up the winds and thrashes the waves with his trident. The goddess, Athena, stems the violence of all the winds except for the north wind, and thus it is Boreas, who sends Odysseus to the land of the hospitable Phaiakes. Jan Bosveld composed Boreas for OLTO, a music association in Loenen, The Netherlands, for which he had served as conductor for many years. Turbulent movement in both tempo and dynamics characterize this composition. The result is a whirling piece that races by in a positive manner. Boreas is in de Griekse mythologie de god van de noordenwind. Bij noordenwind denken wij vooral aan de gure wind uit het ijskoude noorden, bij Homerus echter zien we een meer gevarierd beeld. Natuurlijk speelt Boreas, zoals uit de twee onderstaande verhalen blijkt, meestal de rol van de stormwind die de zware zwarte wolken voor zich uit blaast en de donkere golven van de onstuimige zee torenhoog opzwiept.

His love for Italy explains Carl Wittrock solid in the composition Tignale, named after the same village that he visited one of his vacations. This village dominates the image of the western shore of Lake Garda, where it has a view on the Monte Baldo at the other side of the lake. It is a busy resort and center for excursions in the area. The enchanting location and stunning natural beauty inspired the composer to a musical description of Tignale and its surroundings. An impressive work and a wonderful challenge for orchestras in the middle section. De liefde voor Itali legt Carl Wittrock vast in de compositie Tignale, genoemd naar het gelijknamige dorpje dathij op een van zijn vakanties bezocht. Dit dorp beheerst het beeld van de westoever van het Gardameer, waar het uitziet op de berg Monte Baldo aan de overzijde. Het is een druk bezocht vakantieoord en middelpunt voor het maken van uitstapjes in de omgeving. De betoverende locatie en het overweldigend natuurschoon inspireerden de componist tot een zeer beeldende muzikale schildering van Tignale en haar omgeving. Een indrukwekkend werk en een prachtige uitdaging voor orkesten in de middenafdeling.

In the year 1368 a rapacious character takes up residence in the castle of Rijnesteyn at Cothen. He is Johan,bastard son of the Bishop of Utrecht.Round this now so peaceful castle eventful matters are enacted. In part one Johan and Willem Gulik of Guelders set out to do battle against King Charles of France. On their return,in part two, Johan captures two French goldsmiths in Hainault and incarcerates them at Castle Rijnesteyn. Part three is a musical representation of a courtly ballet in medieval style. The final part relates how Jan van Rijnesteyn goes to war against Hendrik van Vianen and Lord of 'Goy,Viscount of Utrecht.Jan loots hispossessions and threathens to conquer all. In het jaar 1368 betrekt een roofzuchtig heerschap het kasteel Reijnestein te Cothen.Het is Johan, de bastaardzoon van de Utrechtse bisschop. Rond dit nu zo vredig gelegen ridderslot hebben zich toen geruchtmakende taferelen afgespeeld. In het eerste deel trekt Johan met Willem Gullik, de hertog van Gelre, ten strijde tegen koning Karel van Frankrijk. De terugreis speelt zich af in het tweede deel. Tijdens deze reis neemt Johan in Henegouwen twee Franse goudsmeden gevangen en sluit ze op in de kerker van slot Rijnesteyn. Deel 3 is de muzikale weergave van een hoofs ballet in middeleeuwse stijl. In het laatste deel wordt verteld hoe Jan van Rijnesteyn in 1396 ten strijde trekt tegen Hendrik van Vianen en de heer van't Goy, burggraaf van Utrecht. Jan plundert diens goederen en dreigt diens bezittingen te veroveren.

The work was written as a commission by the Melomaan Foundation on the occasion of its anniversary. The African Connection Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
Carl Wittrock's wide interest in global folk-music resulted in this concert-piece based on original African rhythms. Obviously, the percussion section has a conspicious role to play, but the band too may indulge itself in moments of thoroughly delightful excitement. The introduction depicts the awakening of nature, and develops into a dance. The (main) motif of this dance is from a dance entitled Apollo and comes from Gambia. Its accompaniment consists of an ostinato pattern by balaphon-master Maudo Susa. The quiet middle movement is based on the rhythm of the 'gigbo' : a traditional dance from Ghana. In the final movement -which also bears a slight resemblance to a theme from 'The Lion King'- the so-called 'Kono' rhythm is used. The work is played most advantageously using djembes. Challenge and please your percussion section with 'The African Connection'. Carl Wittrock's brede interesse voor de wereldmuziek resulteerde in dit op originele Afrikaanse ritmes gebaseerde concertwerk. Het slagwerk speelt uiteraard een opvallende rol, maar ook het orkest kan zich op een heerlijke manier uitleven. De inleiding schildert het ontwaken van de natuur, welke overgaat in een dans. Het motief van deze dans (Apollo) is afkomstig uit Gambia. De begeleiding bestaat uit een ostinaatpatroon van de balafon-meester Maudo Susa. De basis van het rustige middendeel is gelegen in het ritme van de Gigbo, een traditionele dans uit Ghana. Het laatste deel (met enige gelijkenis met The Lion King) maakt gebruik van het zogenaamde Kono ritme. Het werk komt het best tot zijn recht als er gebruik wordt gemaakt van djembes.Daag uw percussie sectie uit en doe ze een groot plezier met: The African Connection! 06:30
