Ceremonial - Ferrer Ferran
Ceremonial was composed for the opening of the Auditorio Florida, the home base of the Banda Primitiva de Paiporta. The composition consists of three movements. I. Introduction - The introduction is presented in the form of a fanfare; it heralds the ceremony in a majestic way. II. March - The marching music leads to an expressive and delicate melody that contrasts with the other movements.III. Dance and finale - A dance concludes the ceremony. The dance, in combination with the melodic lines, radiates energy and grandeur, and finds its climax in a grandiose moment, which every ceremony deserves.

Around 1540 Tielman Susato, the Belgium trumpet player and composer, established himself in Antwerp as a printer of music. In 1551 he brought out The Third Little Music Book, a collection of instrumental dances. Most of these are arrangements, possible by Susato himself, of popular dance tunes. In keeping with sixteenth-century practice, this book details no specific instrumentation; something to be worked out by the players with whatever available means. Doubtless many of the dances were performed on wind instruments at festive outdoor events. The date of Susato's birth is unknown but estimated to be around 1500. The same applied to his death, which is thought to be somewhere between 1561-64.The third Little Music Book gives several examples of the traditional sixteenth-century genre, the dance pair, a predecessor of the Baroque suite. In such a pair the first dance was often in slow or moderate duple time, the second in quick triple time. This is the case in the pair presented here, which consists of a lively round dance followed by a Hop Up or saltarello.Titles in the Prelude Series are specifically scored for bands with few, if any, bass instruments but will sound well on larger ensembles. The bass line is playable by any combination of bass clarinet, bassoon, baritone saxophone, trombone, euphonium or tuba; in the event that none of these is available, the part for trombone/euphonium (B flat TC) can be played by tenor saxophone. The tuned percussion part is entirely optional and can be played by any available instrument(s). Each piece also includes a preliminary exercise. This is always in the same key as the accompanying piece and consists of a scale and chord progression that can be used for improving ensemble, balance, intonation and instrumental facility by changing tempo, articulation and dynamics.Duration: 2.00

Once again an A-B-A structure here.San Diego: A Mexican fugitive enjoys his freedom in America but also remembers his place of birth with melancholy. A sad minor melody with a straight trendy beat appears twice. The second time it has a slightly different instrumentation, in which the muted trumpets represent the Mexican feeling.Final Dance: Eventually there is a dance with an introduction in renaissance style, followed by a fast dance in rock style. "Storsltt" or in English "Grand Nordic Tune" is one of many original pieces written by composer ystein Olsen Vadsten. "Sltt" is a general term for music played to traditional Norwegian dances."Grand Nordic Tune" was a commissioned work for the Rlingen Musikklag's 70-year anniversary concert in 2022, where the piece was premiered. They wanted something a little pompous, and preferably something in the style of Nordic folk music, which the composer is known for. The title in Norwegian then was obvious, "Storsltt", which in Norwegian has a double meaning, both a big tune and, in a double meaning, pompous or magnificent.As usual, the starting point is a traditional Nordic dance form, and this time the choice fell on the distinctive Swedish "polska", which is played in . The dance, despite its name, reportedly has no connection to Poland, but is entirely of Scandinavian origin. It has been danced for centuries, and has also been called the devil's dance, because it had a hypnotizing effect on people, so that they could not stop, but danced themselves to death. Hence people thought that it must have been the devil who caused it.Traditionally, there is a lot of repetition in this type of music, which contributes to this hypnotic effect.
