Recent years have seen his publications of easy flexible ensembles for younger players and now he turns his attention to the wind band. In this series "The Concert Band Collection", he has written exciting new pieces for the standard concert band line up. Attention is given to each instrument so that the technical and musical requirements do not exceed UK Grade 2.5. An optional piano part will provide "stuffing" and moral support for the young players who will quickly enjoy James' catchy and imaginative music. Each volume contains two titles. For Concert Band, Bagpipes and Drums.This impressive work was composed for the Dutch-Friesian city of Leeuwarden, which was considered the cultural capital of Europe, 2018; the composer spent his college years in this city. This festive work for bagpipes, drums and fanfare band is based on the melody of the anthem of the province of Friesland. Proud was written for the music event, Grutsk, which is the Friesian word for proud, hence the title. Various bands have performed on five different stages across the town centre. The finale was performed in a concert held at Wilhelminaplein (Wilhelmina Square), which opened with this work. This world premiere was conducted by the composer himself. The bagpipes are optional, but advisable. As a whole, they give the composition a very special sound.Duration: 3.40

Psalm 150 was composed for the Golden Jubilee Service for HM The Queen, 4 June 2002. With the premiere performance in St. Paul's Cathedral, London, the composer wanted to capture the acoustical qualities of the cathedral by placing three soprano soloists high in the dome, from which they sang as a trio at key points in the music. This arrangement, when performed by Concert Band alone, has those parts written for three solo trumpets to be placed in the rear or balcony of the concert hall. The work is filled with pageantry and ceremony, ending with the sound of cathedral bells ringing dramatically over the powerful scoring for band.
