Nar himmelen faller ned (When the sky falls down) is the most famous song by Norwegian singer/songwriter Anne Grete Preus (1957-2019). It was released as single record in 1998 and included on the "Best of" collection "Mosaikk - 16 biter" later the same year. The song was also one of her very first hits as a solo artist. Her great career included many prestigious awards. Most notably are the "Spellemannsprisen" (the Norwegian Grammy) which she won several times. This arrangement was originally written for Preus herself as vocal soloist with Concert Band. In this reworked version, the vocal solo part can be omitted as the melody is spread out in the various band parts. Duration: 4.15

It opens majestically with answering phrases between various sections of the band, leading to a faster march-like section, its main theme echoes the rhythms of the opening material. A bridge passage featuring snippets for saxophones and trumpets leads to a new theme, more legato in nature and repeated after a change of key. The bridge passage returns to herald a restatement of the main theme before the opening material reappears to close the work with a flourish.Duration: 3.45

This work for soprano and concert band was originally written for a special occasion: the wedding of one of the composer's children. It therefore matches another piece written for a similar occasion, I Shall Love But Thee. The lyrics are from the book Respiro Neve by the internationally renowned art photographer Luca Artioli, who possesses poetic talent as well. The first movement is stately and serene as where the contrasting allegro is much more dynamic and cheerful, requiring the solid high register of the singer. The conclusion is festive and radiant, partly thanks to the contribution of a piccolo trumpet! This work is a wonderful addition to the band repertoire wanting to perform with an excellent vocal soloist!Duration: 6.45
