A century ago, James Causley Windram, then band director of the 5th Northumberland Fusiliers (and later the Coldstream Guards) asked Gustav Holst if he would transcribe some of the composer's Hymns from the Rig Veda for military band. Always a band advocate, Holst readily agreed. In this thoroughly characteristic suite, two of Windram's settings (Hymn of the Travellers and Battle Hymn) have been edited for modern instrumentation, while a third (Hymn to Manas) has been arranged by Jon Ceander Mitchell from Holst's original choral setting.

£200.00COMMEMORATIONS (Programme Concert Band) - Ellerby, Martin
Commemorations was written during Martin Ellerby's tenure as Composer-in-Residence to the Regimental Band of Her Majesty's Coldstream Guards. The idea behind this particular commission was to write a work commemorating various events in the Regiment's history. The resulting work was an amalgam of such pieces written for specific occasions - hence the work can be performed as a whole or as individual movements. The movements are: Fanfare and Royal Procession; Hougoumont (March in Memoriam); Jacob the Goose (Scherzando Militaire); Elegy, 1944 (Anthem for a Regiment); Blue, Red, Blue (March in Celebration). In the mid-1970's, the Band of the Coldstream Guards made it into the pop charts with a rock version of Handel's Water Music entitles Heavy Water. SALAMANCA (Peninsula March No.1) (Programme Concert Band Extra Score) - Ellerby, Martin
